Stock oil guage not working?

Ok so all my other gauges work but the oil one. I have a 88 2nd gen. I put a new sending unit in and wired it up with the right wire (just a single wire right?) So now when i turn the key to on the oil needle goes all the way up as far as it can go.. then when started it goes down past zero. Now when i disconnect the wire the needle doesn't move. I know i have preasure because i tested it mechanically. Is there a ground wire for this or what am i missing here people thanks.

there is a small resistor(black small box)atached to the clutch slave cilinder that if is conected to the wrong plug your our oil guage will do that(it happens to me)mine was plug in to the wrong conector and the guage went crazy, now that i builded a driver side harness from scratch and got rid off all the stock stuff(including that weird resistor box filter whatever)the guage works fine

Are you talking about the black box in the rubber boot that is bolted to the driver side of the engine bay? If so i never touched that box when wiring up the micro. And it worked fine before i started. Any other ideas guys. Thanks
