no such thing.
if someone has locked your computer you either need to get the key off who ever put it or send the computer back to microtech to have they key removed.

You talking about the "dongle" that goes between the Microtech ECU and laptop or the handset controller?
Either or can be bought from a Microtech dealer...

its the dongle that goes between the laptop and microtech. the handset contropol has the key in the circuit board.

microtech charges you 155 plus shipping for it. it doesnt make sense to me why you have to have a key to tune a tuneable ecu. its like selling people food and then charging them for the utensils to eat it.

yea the PO is an *** and is still trying to help ya, shouldnt of sold a good car to a kid, if the laptop adapter is what you looking for you either have to pay the price like everyone else or hunt down a used one, i had that for for almost 10 years and didnt have problems, now its got all kinds of problems, you should of just letf it all set the way it was, it was dyno tuned the day before you picked it up, also it has the handset, everything can be changed using that

i just thought this was funny...thats exactly how the world works, why would it be surprising? we get charged for the car and the gas to run it, it's all the same principle.

there is a reason for the adaptior

another company has a patent on programming a ecu with a rs232 cable, by using the dongle we dont breach there patent

i can understand the reason of avoiding the patent breach, but what about the hand controller? you dont need the dongle to prgram with that. how is that any different than plugging it into a laptop?

the patent states using a PC on it, so handcontroller does not breach the patent

right right... well i bought a software kit and what not from one of the microtech dealers on here...

and aside from that, me being a kid (18 in a month) is no reason to say anything against me. me never messed with the microtech, other than when the power source mysteriously disapeared and the fuel decided to not have power either. i didnt adjust any of the tuning, but i did read though it to compare it to others maps, and i compared it to the stock map that microtech sends on the ecu preprogrammed for your car. and how do you dyno tune a car that leans out and detonates at full throttle, aside from the turbo surging and boost creep up the ***. im not saying its a bad car, it was just never tuned. plain as that. and chris at banzai racing can vouch for that since hes one of the people that also pointed out the stock map.

So, uh, what is the question?

If you are asking how to avoid detonation when starting your tune, just richen up the boost map a LOT and back down the timing to start values. Always start rich and move towards lean.

well the original question was is there anyone here that would be willing to let me borrow a laptop dongle, but that issue was taken care of.

i know how to avoid det when tuning, and the basics of tuning. the "how do you blah blah blah.." was directed to the PO and kd rotarys non existant tune job. but this thread is done for.....

please delete it.
