Microtech Program Download or CD?

hey guys, i ordered my microtech from a group buy and it only came with the hand controler no cd or laptop adaptor. so i bought a laptop adator from someone on the forum. i have read the manuel over and over i know it says only certian computer will work with laptop and you much check for sticker on bottom of computer but i cant since mine is in body shop at the moment. I should be getting it back tommorow and i need to know if the program that is on the microtech website is the same as the disk?

oh yea what are most of you useing for a laptop? the laptop i have doesn't have a serial port so should i just get a serial - usb adaptor cable? or try to find a cheap older laptop with a serial port. i was told by a friend of mine who works on computer not to adapt serial-usb, but i an wondering what you all are doing for this.

The software that you find on the website should be the same software that comes on the cd. I went through a few different usb to serial adapters to find one that works. First off to get it to work your going to have to make sure that the usb to serial device is set to use com port one ot two. The on e i finally got that worked i got at bestbuy. I wanna say that it has a greenish theme to it and the company name is iogear? If you search this section then you'll find a thread or two addressing this issue that i used when i had that problem. By the way my laptop is a compaq presario model number 700 us.

Yeah that looks like that one. It shouldnt matter, i dont think you can set it up to use just the laptop or hand controller.

The one I have (USB > Serial) doesnt work, I think its logitech or something like that. apparently its because it communicates to fast, and I cant find a speed setting.

Yeah i bought a a couple of generics ones that didnt work either. Then i read on here that a few people that had different adapters than me got theres to work so i just spent some money and tried a few. I tried adjusting the speed settings on the ones i had that didnt work and it made almost no difference whatsoever.

Your going to have to go into device mnager and find the driver for your adapter then go into its properties to adjust the speed and other settings.
