hi,

i have running in my 13bbpt a Microtech LT10s.... now i have had it running for a couple of weeks with no problems at all, untill last night when putting it around then giving it alittle stick she cut out, fuel & ignition...
then she wouldn't start, so i had checked all fuses etc which seem to be fine yet to look under the carpet where the microtech is sitting and the x4 ignition box was smoking, and it was HOT too hot to touch.... also the black wire
had look like it had metled from the plug and has stuck to the X4 ingintion box...

what could cause this, and could this have possible damaged the Lt10s? Could it be a replace the x4 ignition box and should be ok? would it be a earthing problem? could it be cause it wasn't venting it over heated???

sounds like the x4 box overheated or the wiring to the box was to small. if you have the box under the carpet i would relocate the box and double check your wiring to the box

Who ever wired up the microtech needs to be removed from the industry.


Get a new x4 box.
Get a new loom for the coil packs.

Re wire the coil packs, and run the black wire and earth it DIRECTLY ON THE BLOCK.

Then make sure you have AT LEAST one earth strap from chassis to block and chassis to battery and that all contact points have been cleaned up, so no paint etc.

yer the x4 box, the motherboard on the x4 box is getting replaced by Microtech, and a new loom with it...

i have a battery earth cable that im going to run off the block to the chassis, this time making sure all earths surfaces have sanded back to bare metal and cleaned...

I have done abit of research on this and have learnt my lession.

Make sure the black wire is grounded on the block.

IN addition to the earth cable you are adding from chassis to block, add one from battery to chassis.

yer will do, and the MT ECU earth will be wired to the other side, of the bolt... on the gearbox... Aluminim best conducter... : ) and the X4 box will run off the other side of the bolt (motor side), also where the Black extra earth cable is being run from... im not taking any more chances with this!

Yer the battery is located in the boot of the car, where it already is nicely earthed to the chassis, and for extra the is a earth running of the starter motor (as of course it should be) where its doubled up under the main fuse box for the car...

Im also going to run another extra 25amp earth wire from where im taking the big earth to the motor and im putting it onto the manifold then off again to the chassis.. so the manifold is also earthed... ; )

Im glad this problem has happened tho, as the motor wasn't earthed properly in the 1st place, hence all the problems i had with the MTX8 before... (cracking coils etc...)

What you should be getting is at least 4 guage wire, soldering both with ends(properly soldered) and bolting on on your chassis rail(clean paint off) and bolt the other side on your front plate, or rear plate(gearbox bolt).

This will get you a 0-0.05 ohms resistance between chassis and engine.

I checked a car yesterday that had problems, starting, idling etc. It had 18 ohms of resistance between chassis and engine.
