lt8 in s4 rx7. spark problem

ok im running a haltech in mine rx7 but a friend has a 1985 s4 13bt rx7 with a lt8 and a s5 engine.

Is there a way to time/fit the crank angle senser other than the factory way? eg do you have to set up via the computer or? just time it as factory then run a timing light over it. then adjust via settings in computer?

I also have no spark on trailing coils at cranking. have battery voltage going to them and a .8v ish signal

(we are using factory S4 coils)

What ive tried is....... algin pulley marks and CAS mark and fitted. cranked with timing light hooked up and algined leading with leading mark. car wanted to go but flooded it.. cleaned plugs and checked again. timing was 180deg out?? reset and tryed again. wanted to go but didnt.. battery went flat. fitted new battery and timing was nearly 180 out again. but still wanted to go?

Im stuck now as to whats going on?

dude.. number one.. most older ecus's drop into non sequential ignition and even some do non sequential fuel injection while under the cranking speed threshold

this means trailing spark doesnt work.. and often all injectors fire when cranking

number 2 ... the Lt8 if hooked to stock coils is firing the leading in wastespark .. this means it fires the L1 and l2 lead toghether.. making each side spark one extra time when 180 out

your timing light is seeing the extra pulse that shows the back of the pulley
you can try putting the inductive pickup for the light on the other leading lead
although some types will not see the induction from one half a wastespark pair coil ,,, too much to get into for one little post
( spark travels from chamber to coil on the other side of a paired coil )
you should be able to note that one of the coil ends has a dot to differentiate

as for timing the car.. do it with the fuel pump relay or fuse disconnected ...
microtech has a locked home and trigger value.. you basically move the CAS to suit the engine.. unlike more advanced ECU's
you do have some scope in the timing trim but for goodness sakes leave that zero'd and move the CAS as there is bugs in the software that can make that a real trap for fiddlers

thankyou very much. think im a bit wiser now... the haltech seems easyer to work with than microtech
