Laptop Adapter and Cable???

What type of cable plugs into the serial port on the LTX8? I have the software, but need to plug my laptop into the thing... What type of cable plugs into the port. I have no desire to pay $90+ for the thing from Micotech. Is it somthing I could snag from radioshack or compusa?

I think that you NEED the microtech adapter. I have not used the software/hardware yet personally from what I have read the maps are stored in the little adapter so it is a must.

That is how I understand it works maybe someone else with some more experience can chime in.

Microtech is smarter than that.. The adapter is not something you can find at Radio Shack. You have to buy their part. I am a vendoe for them and I have the kit instock. $109.00 delivered. The kit includes: the adapter, 6 foot data cable, and CD-rom software.
Pm me if you need it..

The cable is just a serial cable, printers and just about anything uses it. the money maker is the adapter.

Nice, I already have the software. My friend has the adapter ( I think). A serial cable cost $5- $10 anywhere...

Now are the maps stored on the adapter? or is it just an adapter???

the cable comes standard with the microtech and is what saves the maps so you need their cable. for the laptop adapter it has a protocol built in so you need that to be able to communicate via the standalone to the laptop.

the only thing you can run with the system is a serial to USB adapter if your laptop doesn't have a serial port.
