I got the car up and running. Whole install took about 5 hours. Do you have the Microtech wiring harness? If so, I would just use it as your harness and just salvage the connectors and about 4 inches of wire from each and solder them to the Microtech harness. I wouldn't try to link the Microtech to the old harness. Way to much extra stuff and could be a source of problems.

the plugs that used to go to the old engine harness (the ones that attach to the kick panel area) not the ones that plug into the factory ECU what do you do with those wires when you use the microtech harness?

Yes, I estimate your father will be out about $2600 in rental car fees during the time it takes you to get the car running. That much money alone could buy a running car (non-turbo w/ manual transmission recommended for college students). Since you bought a non-running chassis, you still do not know the condition of the engine, transmission, clutch, alternator, starter, radiator, suspension, etc., which could add thousands of dollars to the cost of finishing the car. As you have seen, unexpected costs can add up quickly, and the internet forums and magazines usually do not portray the true cost of hotrodding a car. If you stop the project now you can still sell off the parts and chassis, or you can save the project car and finish it after you graduate. College should be your priority, not some gas-guzzling money pit.

Evil Aviator is right. I jumped into my TII GSL-SE swap thinking it would take a month tops. It ended taking 18 months. Fortunantly, I had another car and my Dad let me borrow one of his for a few months. It is a big dive. Well worth it if you can survive it?
