Erratic idle, Dash unit/ECU freaking out?
I seem to be having this intermittent problem where ill be driving and all of a sudden I start getting erratic readings on my DASH unit. The shifft lights will come on, it says shift gears, and the tacho starts jumping around. The car usually dies, and I pull over and turn it off, set for about 60 seconds, and start back up and drive like nothing happened. It doesent happen very often, but the other night it happened twice on about a 40 mile drive.
Any Ideas?

seems like your getting a noise from the tach input... im not sure about DIS but on a electronic distributer system you have a tach input.. which shows the microtech an rpm signal. Its usually a shielded wire.
Maybe your CAS(crank sensor) wires r getting noise from something, check to make sure there not running past anything major like the ALT, spark plug wires or anything like that.

The ALT wires run right by them on a FC.
Im also wondering if the unit it getting too hot, it is in the stock ECU location, about a ft or so away from the DP.

Heat really shouldnt hurt them, unless it burned the coating off on the inside of the wires which is making it short?
Shield the wires or move them away from the ALT, that should fix your problem

Well, the wire for the alt. was laying on the CAS, which could have been my problem, but im still getting the same ecu freaking out problems. Im going to inspect the CAS wires tomorrow, since they were in between the block and the alt. wire, maybe some of the coating burned off and its grounding out or something.
