Broken timing pin on front cover, big problem or no problem?

Hello, This may sound like a stupid question (since I know nothing about how a microtech works yet) but do you need to have the timing pin on the front cover to set timing when using a microtech? The reason I ask is because I am thinking about buying a first gen front cover that is tapped for the turbo oil return line but I noticed that the timing pin is broken off of it. Will this keep me from timing the engine with a microtech or does microtech make that pin obsolete?

thanks

just as long as you can eyeball up where the pin should be with the mark, you'll be fine.
