Exclamation Best "Dumb" coils to use with Microtech LT and X4

Hi all,

I have a FD Rx7 with a single turbo conversion (64/66), halfbridge porting and with a Microtech LT-10c computer with x4 ignition module. The car currently is using the factory FD Rx7 ignition coils and I was thinking of doing an upgrade to these soon since I've heard they're good up to 400+hp. I am already pushing 420hp and will likely increase my turbo sizing to a 76/75. What coils have you had success running with a similar setup? There are some options I am keen on which I will list below:
  • AEM High Output Inductive "Dumb" Coil
    • Spark Energy: up to 118 mJ
    • Incredibly long spark duration, up to 3.2mS
    • Up to 41,000 Output Voltage, without a CDI
  • MSD Ignition Coil (PN 8232) Advertised as Race Only (Short Durations)
    • Turns ratio: 85:1
    • Inductance: 3.7 mH
    • Maximum voltage: 43,000 Volts
    • Peak current: 800 mA
    • Spark duration: 380 uS
    • Spark Energy: 195 mJ
  • MSD IGNITION COIL - BLASTER SS
    • Turns ratio: 70:1
    • Inductance: 6.9 mH
    • Maximum voltage: 40,000 Volts
    • Peak current: 300 mA
    • Spark duration: 380 uS
    • Spark Energy: ??? mJ
  • BOSCH HEC Coil
    • recommended by Microtech as best "bang for buck" coil in the market
    • specs are basically unknown

The Bosch HEC coils are good with your setup

My go to these days has turned into FuelTechs rebranded CDI coils, Mercury Marine is always a solid choice, etc.

I saw on the fueltech cdi coil description that they will damage ignitiors like the X4. This is the quote on their website: "The coils are designed to be used ONLY in conjunction with capacitive discharge ignitions (like a FTSPARK, for example). Using the coils with inductive ignition drivers will damage them."

My mistake, I went on autopilot and assumed the X4 was a CDI box, disregard what I've suggested.
