I was wondering if you have any pics of your apron being off and how you did it and how you put it back on.Thanks Dale

I am getting the parts together to start the motor out side the car but how did you remove your rear apron there seams to be a ton of spot welds to hold that thing on did you drill out all the spot welds.

Right now I have to figure out my clutch and drive train out. I tested the cooling system and carb and relized that my clutch was fried. I didn't even get the primary butterfly's open more than 1/3 the way and still it was faster that my old 1600cc. Even with the clutch slipping. I must rethink my drive train now considering I intended to turbo EFI (megasquirt) this engine.

It almost fits perfectly on the fire wall. I think it would be better to cut the fire wall out and maybe duct the air from below the car up to the rad, but Im not sure theres enough air flow there. I'm currently using an 96' eclipse rad. it fits perfectly on the fuel tanks stock placement (on top that is ). I'm just using this for testing as I plan on moving to the honda rad. I thought of doing crazy stuff like building a huge maze of aluminum pipe with air fins under the pan to help with cooling. Now that I know how much heat the engine makes I think this could actually work as the main radiator. So as I said, feel free to ask any questions you have. I try to approach this project as open minded as possible as you can see.

I am willing to answer any question you have. I know that this project can be very intimidating. At the time, I do not have any additional support on the trans or engine. I did plan on having some support eventually. I don't think it will be necessary with power below 150HP. But the Horns can bend if you drop it to hard. Having the radiator in the back might work with powerful fans and low HP. I tested my car a few weeks ago with the radiator just hanging off the back. It ran nice and cool, but there was a decent amount of airflow. i want to place my rad in the stock placement of the fuel tank as the 94-97 honda rads are a perfect fit 13"x24" +or- that would look nice I think. the next best bet is cutting the spare tire wall. that's also a nice area and would make a good spot for the oil cooler as well. If you really want to run the rad in the back you could use a Jeep rad 13"x36".

    Rich,
I'm in the process of planning a rotary transplant in a 63vw. I plan to run the motor w/carb. I can't tell from the picture but do you have additional support of the engine? I also want to place the radiator in the rear (still trying to figure that one out). You have yours running to the hood, correct? What radiator are you using and what temp is it cooled at?
I've got a bunch of questions and could use any advice you could give. Here is my email address: locism@hotmail.com

    Thanks,
    locism
