REnns and KEn. This is probably the most informative thread in this section at the moment. I just ordered my V3 board and this cleared up so many questions I had better then the FAQ. (no offense Ken)

Great work you guys. Keep it up and stay squirted.

How about this, since the FAQ has been taking a lot of flack lately, everyone that has a problem with it can contribute to it.

Each person who runs into a problem that they are confused with b/c of the FAQ put together a writeup that clears up the confusion for you once you figure out the problem.

All I'll need is someone who can combine it all into a single coherant document. I'll review the document for accuracy, and then post it in the FAQ thread, replacing what's there.

The FAQ was really meant for people who had already read the megamanual (all of it) and had some experience with electronics, and wasn't meant to be a "cookbook" style document for setting up an MS for the rotary, but it looks like what people want is the "cookbook" document.

I don't have time right now to put together an entire document myself, and it's difficult for me to know what's causing people problems because I'm already so involved with it... it's difficult for me to look at things from the newbie's perspective.

Ken

Ken,

I don't mind helping out. Also, is there any way to allow a user to edit his own threads, or at least own posts. This forum only allows editing for a few minutes after creation, which is a pita.

I honestly don't know if there's a way to allow users to edit their own threads... It may not be possible with this forum software... I think only moderators can do it.

i don't mind editing the threads if people send me the info.

I wouldn't mind helping with such an effort either, I have seen some FAQ flack also, perhaps we should try to have 2 faq's, one hardware/wiring and one software settings ... thoughts?

I suppose it could be all put in one faq, but it might be better to have a more general document describing MS and its capabilities. Then it could link to separate stickies, perhaps with titles like this:

1.) Updating embedded code
2.) V3.0 MS Rotary Build - for modified CAS
3.) V3.0 MS Rotary Build - for stock CAS
4.) MS Software Config.
5.) Setting files (maps)
6.) Wiring harness options (diy adapters, new, etc).

I suppose it could all be stuck in one FAQ,

single doc / seperate stickies w/ that much detail would be really good! (I guess I have to finally build a v3.0 ... )

I guess I can try to bring some sort of writeup and pictures when I get my brotherinlaws turbo 2 running with a MS V3 with the error board and RS harness. I have a few questions though.

1. On the fuel pump relay output can the wiring go straight to the relay that controls it or do I need some type of filter. (Same on the e-fan output on the error board)

2. Which ignition in/outs require shielding (this is for dual VR)

3. Grounding wires should they be run out to near the location of the sensors they are grounding? How many should be used for the engine/manifold.

4. Does anyone have the post that outlined the locations of the pins to the harness. The search function does not seem to have been completely backed up for searching.

Just thought of another couple questions.

4. Those that have used Error's board how did you fit it in the case of the MS. Looks like the 2nd from the top row needs to be used but it is real tight with the trim pots on the ms board.

5. The FAQ talks about the doing the top part of the VR circuit what is meant by that, on the Renn's board if you have a V3 and an error's board.

1.) No filtering needed. Protection components are already in place on the board.
2.) Shield the VR sensor signals for sure. I also shield the coil trigger and select signals as well. The factory harness is a useful reference in this area.
3.) Ground them to a good secure clean engine ground. Proximity to sensors should not be an issue, as there's enough metal through that engine to maintain the same ground potential throughout.
4.) Haven't used one of those boards.
5.) Not sure what you mean.

4 > I *think* I have the error board on the very top slot in the middle of the case ... I will check to make sure.

5 > I believe what he is asking about is to only build a single lm1815 on the error board and use it with the built-in vr sensor on the v3 board.

Just letting you guys know I am working on a howto document currently that will cover the use of a stock CAS with V3 board, 2nd vr sensor circuit addition etc.... I'm about halfway there, still collecting info and trying to bring it together and simplify it so it makes perfect sense... will post it up once I feel its ready. Right now just a lot of sifting thru information. I'm about to switch to CAS and do all this stuff too, so ill keep documenting it as i go

Cheers,

Paul.

Each person who writes their own "FAQ usable thread" please send me a PM. Once I've got enough of them I'll redo the FAQ so that it points to individual threads as renns suggests.

It seems like a good idea to me.
