Megasquirt Trigger wheel setups for MS
Trigger wheel setups for MS
I was wondering about trigger wheel setups. Seems like there are a lot of options available so far as universal kits. I've heard about some haltech and electromotive trigger wheel setups for 13bs, also that Paul Yaw sells a 36-2 wheel to replace the rx8 36-2-2-2 wheel.
muythai, aren't you doing some work trying to get the rx8 wheel to work?
Looks like universal wheels go for about $40-50 and the Haltech s3 or s4 sensors go for about $110. Found some info about a company called Melexis that makes hall sensors, as well as ICs that control the sensor output. Might be able to fab something up for cheap...
What do you guys think the best solution would be to go trigger wheel?

Searched around msefi and found that efahl mentioned the following part# US5881LUA. It's made by Melexis and costs around $2, digikey has them. Hooking it into my v2.2 board is easy enough. There is an example wiring circuit for "automotive use" in the datasheet as well.

Only hard part is fabbing a mount for the sensor. Some folks block off the OMP and run a bracket over, but I may look at the waterpump housing.
One question, though. Do all the 13bs (including rx8) have the same 4 bolt pattern on the e-shaft pulley? That is how the rx8 trigger wheel mounts, right? I also remember seeing in the FD FSM that its triggerwheel has some funky mount to go with the front mounted CAS sensors..
Basically, I'm wondering if a rx8 wheel will bolt up or not. I want to mount it in front and extend the hall sensor mount out a little bit. Presumably, over the next few weeks code will be available using the 36-2-2-2 wheel for the rx8?

I'll have code ready, but it uses trigger return... so whatever problems you're having now, you'll still have them...
The 36-2-2-2 decoder as I wrote it also assumes the wheel and sensor are aligned EXACTLY how they come from the factory.
I honestly don't think any of this will solve any of the problems you're having with trigger return though... and getting these wheels won't increase the spark accuracy the way the code is written either.

Well, it was something I was curious about. Not sure if it'd help or not. Seems like it would, though. On my particular setup, I can't say for sure since I don't know where the problem is. You may be right, tho.
So, I'm not lookin to do anything drastic.
If my car was having serious problems, I would be more keen on converting. Like I said it was something I wanted to look into more, see what others have done, come up with new ideas, etc..
