Megasquirt Timing and triggers.
Timing and triggers.
ok well i got my stock fc running via a homemade plug'n'play harness. it starts up and idles great. the problem is that under light acceleration 2500-4000 rpm i get some "chirping" and it really sounds like light detonation. i have dumped a ton of fuel at it but the problem persisted and has led me to beleive that my timing is not correct. i havent been able to verify timing because my timing lite is junk and im wainting on a new one.
my setup:
second vr conditioning circuit, cas stabbed at stock. every thing else is stock, just unplugged my ecu and plugged in megasquirt.
here are my spark settings which i beleive are wrong:

so here are some questions:
1. megasquirt.sourceforge.net - says: "For inductive pickups (VR sensor) the crank timing has to be Time based. " Mine is set to trigger return. should i change it to time based?
2. this thread https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...=trigger+angle muythaibxr says "Trigger angle should be 65, and cranking angle should be 5 if you're using trigger-return" This tells me that i can use trigger return, but my trigger angle and cranking advanced angle are both wrong.

The trigger angle with 11,1,5,7 should be 65 degrees if stabbed as stock. 60 degrees would work fine too but you'd have to adjust the CAS.
However, timing could be off either direction with your current settings if your timing light is broken and you can't adjust the CAS to make the timing correct.
If you think you're detonating, you could also reduce the timing in the timing table.
