Megasquirt software help!
software help!
Sothe time has come for my first tune. I picked up my 87 TII recently, and it came with a megasquirt. I've talked to my tuner, he asked me what software imrunning on it. I called the prev owner and asked, but he has no idea. I was wondering how can I check which ver. Of the software I have without plugging it in to a dyno? Someone help! Thanks!
megasquirts have their own software. You need to download megatune and the proper *.ini file for the version of code on your megasquirt. To do this, you need to find what firmware version your MS is using. You'll also need to be able to plug a serial cable into your computer; if you dont have a serial port, get the serial to USB adapter from DIYautotune.com.
To find the firmware version, you'll need to open up hyperterminal (already installed on all windows machines), connect your computer to the MS, and power on the MS. The firmware version should be displayed in the first couple lines that pop up in hyperterm. Then you just need to find the ini file for that firmware within the released packages, and put that in your megatune directory.

So I basically have to plug it into my computer? To clarify, my ms was previously tuned before by the previous owner. Now I have to tune it again. My tuner asked me 1) Version of software, link to where we can download2) do you have tuning capabilities as far as*adjusting timing (other than*adjusting the distributor)2)*Was the car previously tuned? and was it tuned on MAP sensor or MAF? Basically I need to figure all of those out so he wouldn't have to do it, thus minimizing the cost of the tune. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!
Yea, you'll need to connect your computer, and once you get it working, you're probably better off letting him use your computer to tune it. Other than that, megatune naturally has a MAP based code to evaluate load (altho its possible to use some hotwire MAFs, but very unlikely that this was done in your case), and there is full control over the timing tables, so basically full electronic adjustment. Make sure that he doesnt have a problem using your computer for it.
