Is your 'Squirt configured to take it's tach input from the optical/coil pick up?

It's a hardware configuration. You will find the steps in the assembly instructions at http://www.megamanual.com

The megasquirt in question is the same one I had running in my fc a few years ago. Hardware wise, its fine, unless something got damaged when he wired it. But I think his problem lies in the stock ecu he is using for ignition. I talked to him earlier, and he unplugged the stock IAT and CLT senders from the stock ecu and just had them hooked up to the megasquirt.

The ignition should still fire though.

Does the 'Squirt get an RPM signal on the Stim?

Have you also tried connecting to the negative side of the leading coil?

could i have shorted out the tach part of the squirt if i hooked it up to the positive side of the leading coil ? i had a auto gauge tach hooked up to that wire and wired the squirt to it at first.
all i want to know is did i screw something up or could it be some other problem.

btw i don't have a stim and don't have the money right now. been laid off for over a month.

Connect the 'Squirt to the - terminal of the leading ignition coil.

And are you sure the 'Squirt hardware is configured to trigger from the coil?

Do you get a signal on the 'Stim?

Are you connecting the center of the shielded wire to the coil?

Buy a Stim or make one. I sympathize if you don't have any money, but you gotta' pay to play. A Stim is probably the single most useful troubleshooting device.

Have you checked the wiring on the 'Squirt to make sure it's set up to take a coil input?

OK, so start tracing the signal. Is the 'Squirt configured to trigger from the Opto/Coil input?

You're going to want to do both of those things. Also, a series resistor helps to eliminate noise. Start at 10K and then move up until you don't get spikes.

Just look in the Megamanual for "Dave capacitor".

The resistor goes in series with the negative of the coil and the Megasquirts ignition input.

Can you post your MSQ?

You get RPM on the Stim, but not in the car? Is that assumption correct? If so, where do you have the ignition pickup connected?

Yes I have RPMs on stim but not in car. Ignition input is single black wire from leading coil.
