Megasquirt NA 2nd Gen, which MS model? Yes, I read the faq.
NA 2nd Gen, which MS model? Yes, I read the faq.
Couple Questions.
First, what MS should i buy if i plan on going from NA to turbo eventually? Should i go with the MegaSquirt I v3.0, or II v3.0? Is it really worth the extra 80 dollars?
Second, what are the system requirements for the tuning program (Mega Tune)? I dont want to have to haul my desk top out there to tune my car, so im thinking about investing in a cheap lap top, for tuning purposes.
Third, what is the complete list of what i need for all of this? Does the assembled kit (not good with electronics) cover everything that I need to have? Anything that I should add to it?
Thanks,

MSII doesn't run the 13B yet, only the MSI can do it. So MSI and v3.0 board. You need to modify the board and add some circuits, or buy a plug and play unit available on the board. I'm pretty sure any old laptop will do as long as it's got a serial port, so eBay's you're friend.
Borrowing a new laptop with USB and an rs232-usb converter is also a good option, what I'm planning on doing!
If you do decide to go this way order your usb-serial(rs232) adaptor and board from diyautotune.com together, will save you hastles later!
My adapter screwed straight into a DB9 mouse extension. Then on the laptop without the serial port you can configure it to use any COMM port and then remove FIFO buffering and Megatune will pick it up straight away!

the best part about the MS is that if you have the MS1 chip and board....you can upgrade to MS2 chip for only 80 bucks later on when the coding is finished. the MS2 will support much higher resolution and better tuning control.
but yes, the code for MS2 is still alpha so get the MS1 kit or get in on the ZEMS group buys.
