ms2 +ls2 coils

hey guys im adding ls2 coild to my 13b powered bug. i am currently using the stock fc setup. but my coil died so i decided to upgrade. i need someone with experience to answer a couple questions.

here is what i got so far.

all coils wired per the diagram on mega manual. including the 2 capacitors.

now on the computer side the way i understand is is
front rotor leading signal output A d14 with 4.7 pullup
front and rear trailing (firing as a wasted spark) are outputs b and c to 2 coils signal wires
rear rotor leading output D (js11)

then i run it in fd mode with a dwell of 5.5 and set to "going low" correct?

im also not running the stock rx7 tach so i can now just grab a signal from an injector wire correct? or should i go into the megasquirt and wire my tach in there?

thanks

You have to run "rx8" mode when you're using COP on MS2.

I believe if you're running from the LEDs you want "normal"

For Spark output D on a normal MS, this means you should duplicate the LED circuit in order to run all the outputs the same.

ok so if i follow that i will not be firing my trailing coils as wasted spark? and im working with a stock CAS so there is no special black magic to make that work?

ok im researching this from what i found i can just build a portion of this circuit

the way i understand it i would go

js11 -> 1k resistor -> 2N4033 transistor (base)

+5v -> 2N4033 transistor (emitter)

wire to coil signal -> 2N4033 transistor (collector)

am i seeing this correctly?

and what version of the ms extra firmware should i run?

ok so i built the led ignition driver circuit in the proto area. it worked once i realized i forgot the 4.7 pullup and added it.

had a hell of a time getting it to run but that was my fault i stabbed the cas incorrectly last time it was out. my bad. anyway i got just the leading coils firing. the ls2 coil terminals i ordered only half came today. lame. so does anyone know which trailing coil goes to what driver?

i currently have
d15 -> iac2a
d16 -> iac1b

Ok I cant get a trailing coil signal in rx8 mode. I got fd enabled and rx8 allowed. Wasted spark. D14. Going low. Every rotation of crank. Any clue? I tedted my coils in fc mode without rx8 enabled they work .

ok i have trailing firing. turned out the plugs were fouled and my timing light wouldn't pick it up. checked it the old way. forgot to cut off the fuel pump and the engine started with a plug in my hand. woops.

anyway i now have spark at all 4 coils. something odd is happening though. if i set the ecu to fixed timing to set my cas timing, i checked all 4 coil wires and L1 T1 and T2 all fire on the yellow timing mark where L2 is firing 180 out. is my signal bleeding over and triggering 3 coils at once? car runs but is shitty to start then runs like *****. i tried to drive it and it sounds like a cammed wrx. so here are my current settings.

tooth wheel, 0 deg
going low normal
wasted spark
d14
dwell 5.5
max duration 1.0
crank advance 4deg
rising edge
dual wheel
angle 0 timing set with fixed timing at 0 deg lined up to yellow mark
every rotation of crank
rotary on
fd mode
rx8 allowed
negative split not allowed

i need to get this running and driving by tomorrow night if anyone has an idea whats up. ill try and get an msq later but my laptop is actin up too.

L2 and T2 should be firing 180 degrees out from L1 and T1.

Are you using the latest stable firmware? I'm not aware of any problems with trailing ignition at the moment, but I need to know what firmware you're running before I can verify.

msextra 2.1.0d

so with negetive split not allowed L1 and T1 fire at the same time? could my split timing table be throwing this off?

i updated the firmware to the most current, i verified all my wiring, i reviewed my whole tune, re set base timing and it runs, and damn well. i have been rocking only trailing spark for a couple months. i had a rough idle that was a vacuum leak due to a split cap so i need to replace them all since they are all the same age. thanks for your help
