Ms I?

for a turbo application how well would MS I do?? ( http://www.diyautotune.com/catalog/m...bled-p-28.html )

I have an 85 SE with a stock 13b 6port and would like to install a turbo but wasn't sure how it would go with MSI since it doesn't have ignition?? how big of a plus is it???

well, MS1/Extra does do ignition, involves all the same parts in the kit (but can require a few extra circuits, like LM1815N for the second engine speed signal etc), and it works pretty well. Im running my S4 13b-t on it now, and it runs well, i just need to finish figuring out my side of it (the tuning)

MS1/E would work for what you're doing. Its mostly a change in software, but there are a few external circuits you would need to construct based on what you want to do with it, but yea, it will work. Does your motor use a crank angle sensor right now or a distributor for ignition timing?

Im not too familiar with setting up MS thru a distributor (only done it with the 2nd gen ignition and a COP setup), but i know its possible.

I would recommend using the stock second gen ignition, especially if you're going turbo.

ms1 with ms1/extra will work, as will ms2 with ms2/extra.

Most of the hardware mods to the MS itself will be the same for one vs the other.

If your car is running now, install MS in fuel-only mode, and get that tuned properly. Then add ignition control, and get that debugged and tuned. Then add turbo, and adjust maps as needed.

On a first gen, what could be used for the engine speed sensor, out of curiousity? Can the MS pick up the engine speed from the distributor, or will a hall or VR sensor need to be fitted?

rolfs - got the kit done already huh? good job! I put together my second one (the one for my 7) in about 7 hours continuous, although it really seemed like half of that while i was doing it. Just make sure that it checks out for each step, and that you have figured out what you want to do with all of the different outputs and how they need to be wired, because once its in the car and running you may not want to take it out and pull it apart.

With distributor, and the MS not controlling ignition, you take the RPM signal off the negative terminal of the coil (Through a resistor preferably).
