OK Megasquirt DIYPNP or MS3

Okay, new to megasquirt and getting ready to purchase what I need but am up in the air as to which way to go so I would like to ask some opinions.

I am currently working on a T-II swap in to an '85 FB. I have removed all emissions, disabled the twin-scroll (was an '87 T-II) and have basically a T-II motor with just the simplified TB (removed the second set of butterflies) and vacuum spider removed.

My dilemma is this, I have factory harness for the T-II engine which I was hoping to use to help with the wiring of the injectors, CAS, and some of the other sensors. Planing on using some LS1 coils for ignition. I was hoping to make a clean install so was thinking of going with a DIYPNP in order to utilize the harness I have, knowing that I'll have to change the ignition wiring and a couple of the sensors.

Am I being silly thinking I should bother with the DIYPNP or should I just stick to the MS3 from scratch?

Thanks,

matt

I'd go with MS3 for the simple reason that James and I are focusing on that the most as far as new development and bug fixes go.

Would it be possible to purchase the MS3 as-is (just the standard kit) and assemble without having to modify or having to use a daughterboard? I did all my research months ago looking as the MS2...

From what I can gather on the MS3, it will provide the extra VR input for the stock CAS. Anthing special needed to control the LS1 coils? Also, since I'm using an '87 T-II I believe I have the low-impedence injectors, so will I need to wire in resistors in-line to increase impedence?

Researching my ignition setup it is also recommended adding capacitors in-line to prevent feedback through the system and increase reliability/response (you might be able to explain more). Should I do that in the wiring harness or possibly just place that in the addition space available on the MS3 board (the prototyping space)?

Programming wise, since I am using the LS1 coils, I think I can run in rx-8 mode, where each ignitor/coil is controlled seperately, not having to resort to a wasted spark and allowing me to increase dwell time and the benefit being the a better spark, right?

Just got alot of questions before I make the plunge.

TIA

If you get an MS3 kit and the MS3X expansion board, it has the inputs and outputs for the CAS and the LS1 coils. These could be run in RX-8 mode; I don't anticipate any problems with that.

I think I'm pretty much sold on the MS3X. It's more money, but to have it ready to go is really desirable for me.

You say you disabled the twin scroll.... there is a lot of argument I see about doing this. I find S4 turbos all day long, S5 turbos are harder to come by. I'm putting a S4 TII into my FB aswell but have yet to buy a turbo for the motor. Is it really that noticeable to open up the Twin Scroll vs trying to make it work with an rpm switch through MS?

I know this is an old thread, but have you completed the swap yet?

I'd suggest keeping the twin scroll and operating it via a solenoid and one of the spare outputs. Doing a 2nd gen right now where I'm setting this up.

Yeah, I haven't completed the swap yet so I can't speak to whether the twin-scroll disabled is noticeable or not. I just moved to PA and had to put the project on hold as it sits at my brother's in St. Louis while he continues to work on it for me (very nice of hime though ).

Still set on the MS3 with MS3X and is almost ready for me to take the plunge on that. Just finished plumbing a new radiator, oil cooler, fuel system and going to begin wiring in the next month or two (fingers crossed). As most of you can relate, projects are projects that always get set aside for life but one day It'll be done.
