map replaces the afm?

well im considering the megasquirt for my rx7 as well as for my friends toyota supra im new to the sandalone idea and the tuneing but i can solder and im ok with electronics so i think i can put 1 together for both cars i plan on megasquirt 1 i want to use error*s daughter card and im not 100% which would be better to use with error*s card v2 or v3 board but exactly what sensors will the megasquirt use off the rx7 and supra im guessing that since it comes with its own map sensor which can be install in the ecu or outside it depending on how you set it up it would remove the intake air temp sensor and the mass air flow sensor (both supra and rx7 use a afm) and i was also wondering if with error*s card if i can use a knock sensor (the rx7 is a na but i plan on turboing it) sorry if i sound like an idiot im tired i want to figure this out and im new to the non standard standalone idea
thanks for any and all help

Joe,

Im not one of the resident experts on the MS, but I have finished building mine and just waiting to get the engine together and build my harness to install it.

Anyways, YES, it eliminates the MAF but not the IAT. You need to run the IAT for the MS to function properly.

The MAP sensor only reads the Manifold Pressure. Along with the TPS it will calculate required fuel.

I suggest reading up on the MS here: http://www.megasquirt.info/

Also here: http://www.megamanual.com/v22manual/rotary.htm

The support here, along with the megamanual and other sites dedicated to the MS will help you get a better understanding of the system

the MAP sensor is built inside the MS. Also from what I have seen it is best to locate the IAT in the throttle body elbow.

Its best to install it on the board IMHO. Most people seem to install it there. I dont know about errors daughter board. Im going to be cutting the teeth on the CAS. Im going to be running the Mazda stock sensors also, all new of course.

good stuff above ... the error card allows "easy" interfacing w/ the extra code features ... you can pick and choose and get an idea of what it is capable of ... some stuff is mutually exclusive ...
