Exclamation Last attempt at figuring out a 20B plan

Ok, so after talking to Jeff20B a little today it seems I may have been premature in looking at offloading the MS in favor of a Haltech.

Here is the setup as I see it working, please chime in and correct me if I'm wrong. The idea would be for a no-split leading and trailing on a turbo 20B.

1) Use stock CAS, either missing tooth or 2 x VR conditioner
2) Wire Spark Output A (LED) -> 2 x separate Igniters and 2 x separate Coils (L1 and T1)
3) Wire Spark Output B (LED)-> 2 x separate Igniters and 2 x separate Coils (L2 and T2)
4) Wire Spark Output C (LED) -> 2 x separate Igniters and 2 x separate Coils (L3 and T3)
5) Setup as a V6 in wasted spark mode with a 60* trigger angle
6) Trig A: 1
Ret A: 3
Trig B: 5
Ret B: 7
Trig C: 9
Ret C: 11

I suppose I could use LS1 coils as they have a built-in igniter. Presumably I would have to play around with resistor values on the LED's until correct for those igniters, but the idea would be to end up with 6 LS1 coils fired by 3 LED's.

Does this setup seem correct?

That should work, but my preferred method would be to use two EDIS6 modules, one for leading and the other for trailing. You can easily configure this for either no-split or fixed split setup. The EDIS modules are bulletproof, very immune to noise, and simple to install. So long as you can live with the Motorcraft label on the module, I'm quite sure you'll have a more reliable, robust solution. You'd still need six separate coils, but the ignitors (3 per module) and signal conditioning is all built into the EDIS module. In any case, keep in mind you are talking about a boosted 20B, which is a high dollar engine to be experimenting with. Make sure you recognize the risk and proceed with caution.

thetech: This is more or less what I was trying to tell you to do the last time you asked about it!

Sorry! I must have filtered it through my brain!

Information I get about running no-split under boost is mixed though, so this may not be a suitable solution. Any insight?

Try asking the zero-split question in the single turbo area of the forum. You'll find far more experience of such matters there than in this corner. Here's a start:

Thanks renns, seems like several prefer no-split timing under boost for maximum power. The good thing seems to be that wiring it up the way described above would allow for no possibility of the trailing every firing first (good thing).

I guess I'll put the Haltech on ice and give this a shot, as I much prefer the MS interface and it's already somewhat attached to my car anyway.

Thanks all, I will report back with my findings!
