Fuel pump relay question

Does the fuel pump relay have to be controled from megasquirt or can it be switched from the ignition key?

The reason i'm asking is today I had the car running and my relay failed. So I hard wired my pump to a igntion switched power source and now all the car does is flood instantly. Even after clearing the flood it acts like it wants to start but just floods within a few seconds.

Most likely you created a short somehow that's causing the injectors to stick open.

Do NOT leave the pump powered directly from the key. That makes for a very dangerous situation in an accident. Check your wiring and replace that relay.

I have found a pinched wire exposing the ground to the upper intake manifold on the rear secondairy injector causing it to stay open. I'm going to try again today and see what happens. I will fix my relay problem before I get the car on the street.

Good, I assumed that directly wiring the fuel pump was a temporary thing, but what renns says is definitely true. IT should be set up in such a way that it'll turn off when the engine stops.
