Megasquirt a few questions
a few questions
Is there any specifics i need to know about a usb to rs232 cable? Can I run individual coils (gm 5.3L coils). I have an S5 and want to keep my oil injection, can I us the megasquirt to control it or can I run it with the pcm in parallel? I still need to build my second vr circuit. It is a 3.0 board.
Yes. When using the usb adapter you will probably have to change some settings. Find the assembly guide and read the section on "Serial Communications Construction & Testing" it tells you exactly what to change and how to do it.
As far as I know, MS1 V3.0 cannot control the oil metering pump. My plan is to ditch the electric pump and move to a mechanical unit.

I don't suggest using them. Spend a little more money and get a PCMCIA to serial adapter. The UARTs inside are actual hardware instead of the crappy software emulation most USB adapters provide.
Yes, probably. You'll connect two in parallel for leading, and then use one each for trailing. You would need to turn on FD trailing. However I'm just guessing here, assuming the coils act like standard coils and are not "smart".
Why though? The ignition system on the 2nd gen is better anyway.
No and not without great pain.

Thanks Aaron. I ordered the cable and adapter from DIY autotune. I wanted to use the gm coils because I can get a better spark (jump .060" gap normally). That and I have 8 laying around and if a coil goes out they are easier and cheaper to replace.
