easytherm question

Ok, I just built the ms unit for my friend. With a bit of help everything appears to be ok. I now want to use the easytherm to set it up for the factory sensor. I just installed o29y4, works good! went to easytherm, used rx7 defalts, set it to com1, wrote files, copy to ecu. It said it was good, ms unit was doing it's thing, I copied the files to the megatune directory. When I opened megatune it wouldn't connect.

Now I remember some time ago i had this same problem and i cant remember what i did to fix it. Can someone refresh me on how to get this to work right?

I do have a stim. Thank you.

Here's the steps:

Select rx-7 defaults.
Select 'custom' code option
Hit 'Write', browse to the source .s19 file (for 029y4 or whatever)
Connect MS with boot jumper shorted, power up using proper 12v supply
Hit 'Download', and browse to the yoursourcefile_mod.s19 file
Wait for a minute or two while it downloads.
Remove boot jumper, power cycle MS to start normal operation

Also be sure to copy your newly created .inc files to the car1/mtCfg folder so temps are displayed properly in MegaTune.

yea, you need to jumper the pins in MS to have it write the easytherm files correctly... I forgot to do this the first time and had to re-load 029y4 with the boot jumper shorted to be able to connect again. Once it re-wrote it tho, everything worked fine.

The boot jumper is needed only if the existing embedded code is V3.0 or older. Any version of the 'extra code incorporates the software-triggerable bootloader option. In the early days I had a momentary pushbutton switch mounted to my MS to make re-flashing easier (hold down the button and cycle power to enter bootloader mode). Now it's a non-issue, as it's only needed when leaving V3.0, not for any of those incremental upgrades.

yea, usually it is, but when i had run easytherm unsuccessfully nothing would connect to the MS and I had to reload 029y4 with the boot jumper. It couldnt connect if i tried reloading without the jumper. I was just mentioning that in case quasar has trouble connecting after using easytherm the way he did.

I just wanted to mention what a pleasure it was to meet Russ (quasar) this weekend on my trip up to Jacksonville. He is truly a down to earth person and a great attribute to the rotary community. Thank you for your hospitality and your help.
