car started but should not have.

I just got my car to start for the first time. The engine is a fresh rebuild which I built. I had a hard time with it at first but then changed trigger/return number to 1,3,7,9 and it started right up but super rich. The reason for the richness is the rpm where bouncing for 300rpm to 10500rpm but the engine was barely at idle. I put the req fuel to 1.5 and it idle ok for first start.

When I bench test it the rpm seamed stable. I did not have the coil hooked up. But everthing work fine. I don't know how it ran with such wacky settings. Here is my msq file.

I am using 550cc and 720cc but the rpm is going crazy so I had to counter it with less fuel. I need to find out what is causing the the rpm to go crazy.

I have the same FI combo and it's set at 8.2--I think 8.0 is the standard though.

If you need a map or msq let me know. The msq files I have are for 026i or 029h4.

13bdarren, please fire it up with logging active for a couple of minutes and post the log along with your msq. I'm fairly certain the observed odd behavior can at least start to be explained from that data.

I tried to post .msq file but it would not let me that type off file. I also don't have coolant in yet so I don't want let it run very long. I just fired it up to see if it would even run. To my surprise it did.

Next time you get it running (with coolant) post a datalog. It'll be in xls format.

If you've got a jumpy tach signal, I'd recommend trying to sort that out prior to running again. Those spikes to 10k will screw up the fueling massively (as you've seen), and you'll likely end up with a grossly flooded engine. Try cranking with ignition disabled. Do you get a clean tach signal? If not, spend some time checked grounds.
