back to business!

Well I finally got my new laptop this week and got everything set up software etc. Got to drive the 7 for the first time and could see whats going on under load.
I also realized I need to learn more about tuning yet. Can anyone point me to info on setting up the AFR table. I tried the generator but what it comes up with is strange and for sure VERY lean. My LC1 is installed and seems to be working smoothly but the car stays rather rich.
Also Ive worked with the VE table just trying to get the idle up. Once the car is warmed up the idle drops way low. Like 650 to maybe 700. I can`t get it but just 50 rpms or so higher with the adjustment screw.
Also Ken, I seem to remember you posted a circuit for the BAC valve. I could use help in both building that and getting everything wired right. The car with lights on loads up the alternator (I have an FD alt) and the idle drops even lower. During the day the AC will cause the same thing. With both lights and AC the car won`t idle at all.
(yes my ac works and I`d like to use it this summer)

BTW as we all know, new laptops no longer come with serial ports. Well I found an adapter that works well and the guy that owns the company
(Purple Computing) supports it in person (phone) 100% of the time. He asked me what I would be using his adapter for and I told him about Megasquirt and Megatune. He promised my money back if "we" could not get Megatune and adapter working together. After I called him back to confirm the adapter worked slick as s@#t he put a link to MS on his website, actually a whole page talking about it. Anyway if you need an adapter check here!

Look just below the first closeup picture on the page and you will see the link for MS

NEVER NEVER NEVER try to generate ANYTHING but a VE table.... it's just going to generate garbage if you try. I'm sure I've said this before on this forum, but I know not everyone reads every post.

Besides the VE table I`ve never used the generators because they DO make garbage. I had tried the generator to see if I could get a starting point to work with.
Is there a post with that info or has it been added to the FAQ in the setup info. Also what about the other questions I posted, any input there?

Set up the target AFR table to suit your engine (turbo or n/a). Samples are shown on the msefi site, and some are posted here in this forum as well. Sorry, no links handy, but a search should turn them up.

My LC1 is installed and seems to be working smoothly but the car stays rather rich.
Seems odd given you said above you were VERY lean. Are you sure you have your LC1 configured and installed properly?

Also Ive worked with the VE table just trying to get the idle up. Once the car is warmed up the idle drops way low. Like 650 to maybe 700. I can`t get it but just 50 rpms or so higher with the adjustment screw.
Idle speed is primarily controlled by how much air you let into the engine. Set up a base idle speed with warm engine using the throttle stop on the throttle body linkage, or adjustment screw on the BAC valve if it exists (turbo only?). The BAC valve can then be used to add some extra air for fast idle and/or to compensate for accessory loads. Fast idle will also be affected by the thermowax device if you still have the coolant lines connected to the TB.

Also Ken, I seem to remember you posted a circuit for the BAC valve. I could use help in both building that and getting everything wired right. The car with lights on loads up the alternator (I have an FD alt) and the idle drops even lower. During the day the AC will cause the same thing. Take a look on the ms site for details on how to swap out the stock fast idle transistor for one with a higher current rating, suited for BAC valve operation. OK, I looked this one up for you: http://megasquirt.sourceforge.net/extra/pwmidle.html

I`m running the original NA motor(86`GXL, 162k on car/engine) Considering a turbo conversion if Kevin Landers ever offers another one up for sale! (fingers crossed)
