Description:
This is a running and driving 1993 FD RX7 complete car with almost all original parts. I'll explain the story below, but here are the bullet points:
- Has about 159,000 miles on it.
- New tires
- New clock spring and combination switch (atkins rotary oem parts)
- All lights work
- Engine was rebuilt at 109,000 miles with some upgrades (I will include pictures of the rebuild packet):
- street spec ported
- silicone vacuum lines
- Fluidyne competition radiator
- 550cc injectors and pulsation damper
- upgraded 2 piece 3mm competition apex seals
- eliminated double throttle mechanism
- Turbos and manifold replaced
- plus many little extras
- From what I can see, it's almost all original except for the rebuild/upgrade
- Twin turbo
- New Crank angle sensors
- New fuel pump
- New battery
- Cat back exhaust
- I have lots of extras that I want to sell with the car:
- stock ECU (car is using APEXi)
- complete body kit (front bumper, side skirts, rear bumper, light kits) (i don't know the brand or anything)
- flush mount headlight kit
- random plastic parts, panels, handles, switches, etc.
- extra set of 99 spec twin-turbos
- car cover
- brand new rotary compression tester
- new radiator overflow bottle
- new windshield wiper fluid bottle
- missing one headlight cover
- airbag light is flashing 6 times (likely related to the new clock spring, https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generati...rrors-1144319/)
- abs light is on, brakes work fine
- needs a tune, runs rough at the beginning of second gear, but once you get some speed, you can give it plenty of throttle and go through all gears
- Body is in great shape, but has some dings and small surface rust spots (no rust through the panels or on the frame, just on the body surface)
- Heat/fan works great, but no A/C. Was told the A/C didn't work for the past couple owners
- Windshield has big crack across the middle
- i have the fuel sending unit, but it doesn't work. I believe it could be cleaned up and reused, and you can buy a new thermistor pretty cheap on amazon.
The story:
I'm new to the RX7 world so I'm going to try to include as much information as I can. I bought this car from my friend who let it sit in his driveway for 15 years due to a fuel leak. I remember the last drive in 2008 before he parked it. I picked it up earlier this year with the goal of getting it running. I've rebuilt cars before, but new to the rotary world. I have a stack of paperwork and maintenance records going back to 2003 from the owner before my friend. I also have the rebuild paperwork from 2003 completed by Rotary Performance in Garland, TX at 109,709 mileage.
After I received the car, everything was looked over for any glaring major issues. The engine turned freely by hand, oil looked good, etc. The oil was changed, gas tank drained, cleaned, and flushed the fuel system. The fuel pump wasn't working, so we replaced it with an OEM spec replacement. Once we had fuel pressure, we found the fuel leak. The leak was coming from the line connected to the fuel rail, so after taking off the intake manifold and moving some vacuum lines out of the way, we were able to replace it without much of an issue. Next was confirming compression, so I ordered a new rotary compression tester and confirmed compression was great (110/114/113 front, 120/127/124 back). Still not able to get spark, I thought the APEXi computer was bad, so I bought a used OEM one from eBay. Still no spark, so we got out the oscilloscope and determined the crank angle sensors were bad. After replacing the crank angle sensors it fired right up. Test drive showed that the stock OEM computer couldn't handle the upgrades from the rebuild, so put the APEXi computer back in and it is running much better. Still hesitates when starting out, but once you get moving you can go through all gears without an issue. It definitely could use a tune.
Ask me anything about the car and I will reach out to previous owner and get you an answer if I can. I'm willing to work with the buyer on deliver or shipping as well. I'm open to doing a video meeting with serious buyers.
