Hey there!
I'm starting to explore the market again, as I just can't get my old '94 R2 out of my head, haha.
As stated, my budget is between $30k and $50k. I'm looking for a well sorted drivers car--if I'm buying one of these, I'm driving it, not parking it in a garage. With that in mind, I'm looking for a car that runs and drives without issue, with a nice interior. Mileage isn't all that important to me, as long as the car is in good shape. I don't mind a '94+ tan interior, but am not interested in a '93 full tan car; black interior is preferable. Ideally I'm looking for a SSM or BB car, but I'll also consider CW or MB. I think the FD looks amazing in VR and CYM, but I have trouble seeing myself in a bright car. I'm in CA, so I can't get into something heavily modified, but light modifications are fine. Similarly, I don't need a completely original car, and don't mind '99 spec bits.
Alternatively, I drive an ND2 MX-5, modded to a very nice spec. It's a black Brembo/BBS/Recaro Club with MCS 2W's, CE28N's, Karcepts sways, some Verus and JBR bits, Antigravity battery, etc. I also have all of the original parts, minus the front sway bar. If someone is looking to get into a newer chassis, I can honestly say this might be the best canyon car I've ever owned, and it has a lot of headroom for competent track work. I'd be willing to consider a trade for the right car, as it seems like that could be a win-win for a Mazda enthusiast.

I've got my eye on another car out of state, but to be completely honest, I think I'd be overpaying somewhat significantly based on what that car is likely to require maintenance-wise upon acquisition, so I haven't pulled the trigger; it's getting to the point where it's looking more attractive though, as I've been keeping an eye on the market for a long while now, and if any lesson has been learned it's that every FD comes with compromises in one form or another, and I don't want to wait years hoping that the unicorn will appear, haha.
I'm still really keen to get back into one of these--I've been holding off developing my ND any further in case the right car pops up and I need the liquidity of a car I can quickly return to stock, but I'm definitely approaching an impasse. HKS is officially working on CARB approval for their ND SC kit--so it'll either be a SC ND2 or a tidy FD, and I can't tell if the decision is getting harder or easier as time goes by, haha.

The ND2 is definitely a great car, no question about it. My feeling is that I can always get back into one with very little difficulty, so might be wise to get into a nice FD while it's still not impossible, and if I regret it, I can always get an ND again down the line.
