Description:

I am upgrading my shocks so selling the old ones.

The price includes the shocks as-is - note that they will need rebuilt; that cost is NOT included in the price.  I have included an estimate to rebuild these  from the person who built these for Tri-Point - see below.

Your total investment including the rebuild would be around $2,285, or less than half the price of new.  (Shipping is extra.)

This sale includes:

  • 4 Penske 8100 shocks
  • 4 Eibach springs (model/rate in photo)
  • 4 new Eibach helper springs
  • 4 adapter collars to align the main springs to the helpers
  • 4 adapter collars to connect seat the springs to the stock upper mounts
  • 8 of the rubber donuts that seat the upper stock mount to the shock tower (one each above and below).  These have been drilled out to accommodate the larger shaft on the Penskes
  • Misc. parts like bump stops, washers, nuts, etc.
  • Does NOT include the stock upper shock mounts, although I may throw those in for free depending on what I do for my upper mounts - i should know in the few days.  Mine are stock and I believe did not require any modification so yours should work.

Note that these will need rebuilt including a few new parts.  I am including a non-binding estimate from Ankeny Racing Enterprises.  Guy Ankeny built the Penskes for Tri-Point Racing back in the day and has continued to build and rebuild these and other brands since.  I say this is non-binding since his offer was to me specifically for my goals; yours may differ so please work out the actual price with him.  For example, you may decide to use a different spring rate so you may want to revalve these.  Or maybe upgrade them.  Etc.

The shocks are currently at Guy's shop awaiting my decision to rebuild or buy new, so you could work with him to have them rebuilt.

The springs are 2.5" ID which I went with to allow me to run 18x10 wheels with more backspacing front and rear.

Once work is completed by Guy or you or your shop, these should be a straightforward bolt-in on your car.

His estimate to rebuild:
Labor:  Disassemble, replace shaft seals, wipers, travel o-rings, change worn out shims, change oil, make aluminum bushings for body caps (4), replace hoses, re-assemble dyno    $220 ea
Parts: Used body caps (4) $160, Used hoses $ (4) $80, Seals .o-rings, shims $105 (4) shocks, Aluminum bushings (4) $60

Total Parts and Labor   $1285

I added a couple of really old pics from when I originally installed these (stock shocks and springs not included).  (Shocks were carefully packaged before shipping; the photo in the box was to show a friend i had them off the car.)  Let me know if you want any additional photos.
Note that you will need to have an alignment and maybe corner weighing done after installation (although for the latter people sometimes just set the spring perches to give equal height at all 4 corners).

I am happy to put you in touch with Guy if you want further details on the rebuild or you want  to ask about upgrades.  If so let me know before you buy.

Good sht!

What are you upgrading from Penskes for and what spring rate were you running? Asking about the spring rates because I wonder if the Guy would honor that rebuild price if someone were to have you send them in.

I've been close to pulling the trigger on the Sakebomb Ohlins, but these...whoa

hi @Natey

The front springs are 8" long, 2.5" ID, and 600 lbs-in rate. (forgot to attach a photo of the front, see below).

The rears are 8", 2.5" ID, and 300 lb-in rate.

The markings 0800.250.0300 map to those specs.

If you buy my setup but want to use your springs I don't think he would care, but ask him to be sure.

You would need him to revalve the shocks if you change spring rates significantly and that may be an additional cost. I don't know how changing the valving works; it may be changing a disc out for every X increase in spring rate. Or maybe it is adjusting the existing discs. Either way, likely not a big change in price.

The reason i say i don't think he would care is that the springs and parts in the first photo are in my garage and he just has the shocks as shown in the box photo. So he is just doing the labor plus some repair parts. In fact, if he does more work on them such as the revalving, it might be more money in his pocket.

One caveat is you would need to use the same 2.5" ID spring size or else need to get different spring perches, adapters/locators, and helper springs.

If you like, I will ship all the rest of the parts I have in my garage to him so you would get everything in one shipment. (I will ship to him at my cost if you pay my full price.) There isn't a whole lot of re-assembly needed tho - drop the springs onto the perches, spacer between main spring and helper, top locator adapter to stock mount. Bolt the bottom mounts on.
