That’s a killer price. If I had garage space for this I would be making a bad but awesome decision right now. Haha

Do you think it would ever be possible to obtain a title?

it's likely you could through bonded title process.

It's a race car. I'm curious why the title matters to you? Most race cars have long since lost their titles. It's not like you're going to register it and drive it to work, right?

Just curious about it. I don't see why a race car needs to lose its title. And no I obviously wouldn't be driving it to work if I were in position to buy it. There might be more people that would be able to purchase it if it was able to be driven to the track for events vs trailering it.

It's a production-based race car. It's not like it couldn't be made street legal again.
A car's title status will almost always effect its value, unless maybe it's a museum piece.
A title will let you export it, for one thing. This alone completely changes the potential value of a car.
Clean FDs are selling for 50,000 euros in Europe, apparently. Probably because Americans are driving up the price of JDM cars.

Gotcha. Here's why race cars lose their titles...
  • Guy1 buys a street car to transform into a race car. They don't want to pay annual registration on a car that will never put a tire on a public street. They don't want to pay insurance in order to register the car as some states require. They file the title away somewhere. License plates get thrown out or lost somewhere in the garage.
  • Guy 1 sells the race car 5 years later. He might or might not have misplaced it.
  • Guy 2 buys the race car. Might or might not have the title. He also does not want to pay registration so it doesn't matter. Guy 2 sells race car x years later.
  • Guy x rinse repeat.

Agree with above in the context of a street car. If it doesn't have a title, you can't register or insure it and drive it on the street.
A race car's value (to someone who is going to race it) generally is more about it's competitiveness in class, history, quality of build, components etc.

If someone is buying a race car for a reason other than to race it (like you're going to use it as a track car), one needs to understand the context of why titles are rarely available. It can be dealt with but it will take some effort.

-----
Let's stop the title discussion at this point. I don't want to clutter this thread. Just wanted to explain why titles are generally not available on race cars that have lived a long life.
