Our local yard had about 15 Proteges. I managed to pull out about five radios before the yard crushed their entire inventory and shipped the shells to China. Just sayin', don't hesitate.
I understand Mazda may have had four models of radio across their range for that era. I suspect googling this model number would lead to more info. I also pulled a full Bose cassette/CD player head unit from a Miata of the same era, including stand alone R/L amps.
The Version 6 FD (S8) started using Mazda's next generation of double din radios. Again the head units looked similar across the range. But the units look a little out of match with the carry over dash graphics. By the later models, Mazda was pushing a range of head unit alternatives available from the dealers. In Europe a CD changer unit was a promoted feature of the cars sold there.

Reason: added info.
Mazda Stock radio Model "IM30" taken from a Protege, but possibly also appeared in the Miata, in period. Bin is from the Protege, and feature a release lever, allowing non-damped drop forward of lid. The "push to release" type lid, sometimes seen in the FD allows for a damped drop down, but the mechainsm is more prone to breaking, and will not stay flushly closed. I have two 1.5 inch gauges in the bin behind the lid.

Sorry to deviate but just had to ask a question to @Redbul What type of shift **** is that and are you using a stock shifter (looks short in the pic)? Your setup looks great!
That is a Re-A carbon look ****. It is on a stock shifter.
It is about 400 gram (stock is 300) and I have an additional 300 grams of circular fish weights under the boot. Combined with rebuilt bushings and a top grade transmission fluid, it is very smooth. This on an 160,000 km transmission. The **** warms up nicely.
That said I also love the tall wood nardi ($100 direct purchase) for its feel (too light without the fish weights though).
Those are 2001 Type R Bathurst R factory CF look plastics, as well.
I like the stock textured plastics better, but OEM+, is OEM+.
