Description:
I am selling my 1990 RX-7 GTUS single turbo conversion gem. (Project Car, read for more details)
I have owned this car since about 2004. The car has been swapped over with a full S5 T2 motor and drivetrain soon after. With many, many parts collected and installed over the years. The car has barely been driven the past 5+ years with very low miles on most of the parts listed here.
The car has been going through a recent change of setup for the past year+. I do all the work myself and recently started two new businesses that has kept me from finishing. The car keeps getting pushed back and I now have decided to move on. I was in the middle of the last leg of modifications which was to re-assemble the parts for startup. Then the car was getting painted black.
For the past 5+ years I had the AEM series2 ECU tuned perfectly at 15psi with a TO4Z and the ID 850/2200 injectors. This was with a typical front mount intercooler, series 5 intake manifold, throttle body, and single 3inch exhaust. Perfect start up and drivability and power. Never any problems. The motor has a mild street port and NRS 2mm ceramic seals and always had great compression and was always tuned perfect. I was changing the setup purely to make the car more enjoyable in the Georgia summers and my usage of the car. I never intended to sell it or I would have sold it before all of the changes to the engine listed here.
My latest version of the car was going back to power steering, A/C, and a stereo. I bought a Gleaseman S.S. manifold for the TO4Z and 4inch custom downpipe combined with a Racing Beat REV2 dual exhaust (brand new). This was my solution to high flow, power, and noise. I completely reworked the Rotary Works V-mount intercooler and radiator to allow the RX-8 condenser, power steering cooler, and dual Earls 34 row oil coolers. This was not easy and took a lot of time and effort. All the lines are either s.s. or black braided fabric Earls hose and hose ends. I am using an Improved Racing oil thermostat that is tucked up front in the bumper. The MR2 power steering pump has custom brackets and lines and is mounted up front on the driver’s side. I am using Franklins Motorsports intake adapter to use the FD upper and idle control valve to tune the A/c load and to shorten the intercooler lengths. I upgraded the alternator for the power steering load. All the fuel lines are complete. I made a special bracket that fits an AEM e85 sensor just before the FPR. The S5 lower intake was cut and welded to fit the 4 inch downpipe and manifold combo. The lower and upper intake are powder coated silver and have yet to be used. As the car sits right now most of these parts are disassembled after being test fit and completed so that the engine bay could be painted, particularly where the V-mount kit required cutting. Then that’s when I decided to stop spending time on it and sell.
The wheels and brakes are another very nice touch to this car’s performance and look. I have 17x8.5 17x9.5 combo Advan TC2 wheels in basically near mint condition. With Endless big brake kit that I recently replaced the rotors and pads. FD 99 rear brake calipers with two piece rotors. The endless brake pads are MX-RS pads which are just an incredible street pad once warm.
The GTUS came from the factory with no power brakes. Once I went with the bigger brakes, I installed a hard to find S5 dual brake booster, 929 master cylinder, Wilwood manual proportioning valve, and all custom hard lines. The braking is very good!
The rear end is fully built with a cusco 1.5 way LSD that has a 60% lock set on the plate stack. All new bearings. The suspension is Parts Shop Max Pro coilovers. The rest of the suspension setup underneath the car is every supernow pillow ball mount and link they make. Brand new Mazdaspeed motor mounts, transmission mounts, and differential mounts.
The interior is in the middle of a new stereo installation. The head unit is installed and I think the passenger speaker is yet to be installed. Brand new Recaro SR-7 seats will come with this car. However, the passenger bracket mounts needs to be modified. They look and fit perfect in the FC interior. The interior of the car is basically mint for the age. The red GTUS has a full black interior. I did change out the slider style seats belts for S4 belts years ago. I have the motors and tracks in case someone want to take it back to original.
The exterior has the typical Mazda 90’s red faded paint that I delt with for years. I always had plans to paint the car black. I have the s5 lip in black. S5 factory side skirts in black. Brand new Mazda OEM black hood I had for years in a box. Probably the last black S5 side mirrors in black from Mazda OEM. And factory Mazda brand new door handles in black. I also have all factory Mazda window moldings and door moldings that I held onto for years when I finally painted the car.
This car is ready to be turned to a race car, perfect daily driver, or weekend warrior!!!!
This car has all it all.
