Description:

The rotors that I pulled out of my engine were right at the edge of Apex Seal groove tolerance.  One of my rotors also had a spot of damage on where it looked like a rock got sucked into the intake and made contact with the machined face (right above the bowl).  I posted pictures of this and the general consensus was that I could reuse the rotors, but before I did so I just wanted to check and see if anybody had a set that was in better shape.  Thanks for your help and please let me know if you have any questions.

I have a set or two, that damage you're showing will have zero bearing on performance or reliability though.

How did you measure apex seal grooves?

Hey there,

To measure the grooves I used a brand new apex seal from my rebuild kit and a set of feeler gauges. I cleaned out the grooves using an old apex seal and some brake cleaner and then set the new seal into the groove without a spring. I then used increasing thickness gauges to see how much the top of the groove had opened up compared to the bottom. I ended up replacing one of the rotors with a new one and continuing on with the other. Hopefully that helps. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks for your response. I ultimately ended up buying a new rotor to replace one that had pretty bad "V"ing of the apex seal groove and reusing the one with the damage shown in the picture. I probably would have been interested in what you have to offer before i got started on the rebuild. This thread was from last year (2021). The engine is now rebuilt and waiting on the engine stand for me to finish rebuilding the transmission.
