Yeah, it was. But some knuckleheads had to start talking about the 1JZ, like it actually came in the car we were talking about choosing between.

I like all the 80's chassis. I'd have to say, as far as looks are concerned, I think I like the FC the best. The Supra is a great looker as well. I'm not so hot on the 300zx.

I think the 7M-GTE is also a fine engine, there's no absolute need to swap the thing anyway. I'm not so sure I'd have to say that either it or the 13bt is a better engine than the other; I don't have enough experience with either engine to say that. However, I own an RX-7. I don't own the Supra. If I had more money, maybe I would (in addition to my 7).

But as others have pointed out already, there is a substantial difference between the characters of the two cars. A true driving enthusiast concerned about performance first and comfort second (or not at all, such as myself) is probably going to want the RX-7. The Supra is still a great car, but it's more for those who want to go fast while blaring the radio (ie, using all those extra comfort features), and they aren't really concerned about autocrossing or canyon carving. My RX-7 has no interior and I wouldn't WANT all the extra crap that the Supra has in it.

Two entirely different cars if you ask me. The person who said the Supra was a GT hit the nail on the head. Grand tourers are simply not the same thing as sports cars.

very well said, the supra and the 7 are not in the same class, but some people think they are........... supra is more luxury and 7 is all about performance...... thats why i have both. luxury while i just want to cruise around and awsome handling when i want to go thru the twistys

We were "told"...no ways a RHD JDM FC3S can be brought into the U.S., period.
The basic rule-of-thumb is if there is a comparable make and model already available in the U.S. through normal retail channels, there is no reason to make an exception to import them into the U.S.
For example, any FC3S coupe will not be allowed; the FC3S "Cabriolet" might due to it having a 13BT which the U.S. model did not have.

Also, this is why they won't let an RHD JDM FD3S into the U.S., cause the FD3S was sold in the U.S. 1993 - 1995.
Now, you can argue for a 1999+ SpiritR model...

I need to go look at the DOT webpage again, but I just don't have to time to do the read right now.

I dunno if this has been released to the public, but MotorEX is in a lot of trouble right now.

Heh. I honestly didn't know that. I hadn't heard anything about it. All I know is, the RHD Skyline IS on the list and as far as I knew, Motorex was the only legit RI for them. I'm interested to see what happens with this.

really would have no desire for a skyline. think about how hard it would be to drive around. EVERYONE and there brother would be revving at you and crap. plus, get replacement parts for that thing from NAPA. HA! oh you need a thermostat and a waterpump? sucks for you. Whats that? you need a drivers front caliper? let me check. oh thats right, how about no...

It's not that bad, I've been driving one on a daily basis for the past month. This one ISN'T legalized, but I'm also not in the mainland states right now. A lot of the parts are interchangable with 300zx (or other Nissans) parts, and if not, there's always Australian places to buy parts from.

There is a guy from motorex that split with the company and opened his own business. He posted on one of our local forums.. I forgot what the reason was, but he said **** was going sour for motorex. But instead he sold his part in the company and opend his own importing business.

But yea, you can import rx7's its on the list. Plus there are a few people I know running around in a RHD rx7.

Alright, gotta represent.

Why do you guys always leave out the mitsubishi starion/chrysler conquest? :P

For the few years that the car ran IMSA, it basically dominated the series.

It has awesome weight balance, and does halfway decent in the 1/4/
So it has a forklift engine that happens to make a good turbo setup, so we didnt get the 4g63 dash engine like the rest of the world, so it has god awful throttle body injection, so the turbo is the size if a small travel hair dryer. Fastest recorded time is 13.8 and no funny gas.

188HP @ 5000rpm 234 lb-ft torque @ 2500rpm @8lbs with a hairdryer
Car weighs in the 3100s remove the abs and a/c bs and you are getting close to 3000.
The sport handling package also included 16x9 rear wheels, 16x8 front wheels, and 8 way adjustable struts all the way around.

The car also has one of the best damn factory intercoolers ever offered And they look better than the supra and rx7 *ducks*

The g54b 2.6l sohc also held the worlds fasted 4 banger drag car for a while.

stock for stock for stock. rx7 wins. coming from a supra owner, and former z31 driver.

Supra is DEFINITELY a GT car as I said before. If it was a sports car, it wouldn't have a drivers seat that weighs over 75 pounds. hahaha.

I guess the reason I like the mk3 supra, is because they aren't TOO common, and the community is absolutely amazing. If somebody breaks their car, you throw a BBQ and 20 guys come out to help get your car going again. You get awesome deals on parts...kind of a supra owner discount. $1500 turbo suddenly costs $1100 instead...because they're helping a brother out. I realize most cars have groups of people like this...but supra owners just have that extra bit of comradery, and will go that extra mile to help another person out.

besides, mk3's are cheap! hahah.

If I get more interested in autocross I will likely get an rx7. They are amazing cars, and I respect them now that I know more about them.

3K lbs is heavy as hell compared to an RX-7.

Starion Intercoolers suck nuts. The Isuzu NPR intercooler is way better if you're looking for junkyard garbage.

The Starion is also sinfully ugly.

You probably mean that I'm living in denial. And actually yes, the Starion IC sucks. My friend had one on his Omni GLH and ripped it off within a week and put a NPR one on there because it became heatsoaked so quickly.

Look dumbass, stop being so ignorant.
There's an intercooler comparo out there - do a search for it.
Some Aussie site (overspeed.com?) did a flow test, and the Starion / Conquest stock IC SUCKED.
The stock FC3S flowed better!

The Starion is an awesome car in my opinion, but I wouldn't want to work on one. Swap in a 4g64 wideblock with a 4g63 head and throw a huge turbo on it... now I'll take one of those!

How can you compare a stock diesel truck intercooler to a stock 4banger intercooler, if we wanna talk diesel trucks, why not toss grab one from a frieghtliner.

I:d rather go with the 4g63 wideblock, but the 4g64s definately throw more torque out there It's nice they drop right in.

One of my good friends has a 87 Turbo II ( pip on here ). Stock for Stock I'd say its a toss up... and mod for mod... I'd lean on the MKIII.... especially when you put price into the factor. 400rwhp , 12 seconds flat.. I've seen it for $3000, if that.

so what about if we threw in the sterion into the mix of cars? where does that car sit in the line up of nice turbo charged 80's cars? I have a buddy of mine that has built conquest with a t3/t4 turbo and built engine etc... supposedly it's pretty damn quick but it was having timing issues when I was there so they couldn't run it. what do you guys think? Would it sit up there with the z the rx and the supra?

I actually own two of those, and have driven them both in stock and modded forms. I've had my '91 Supra Turbo for 4 years, and the '87 Turbo-II for only about 18 months, pic at bottom.

They are completely different cars. Stock to stock, the supra wins the drag race, the comfort match, and the gas range award - but the Turbo-II wins everything else. A good driver in a stock supra will beat a bad driver in a stock rx7 T-II.

The supra is a heavy torque monster that's more of a comprimise between comfort and speed. It doesn't have good steering feedback, and the car's suspension is completely overpowered by its weight, but it's crazy comfortable, has a smooth ride, and you dont hear a thing of the outside world with the windows up. When you mod it, it's a different car. 280-300 wheel horsepower with the stock turbo is relatively easy, and with the right suspension upgrades, it's capable of up to 1.0 g's on the skidpad.
The rx7 has really great steering and balance, but it's weak on torque. That, and its tendency to snap oversteer are the only flaws I've found. It's not the cruiser that the supra is, but it wasnt designed to be. I wont explain how great this car is modded, because you either already know, or could find more information using the search button.
