GTU vs Civic turbo

I was driving home and I always notice this guy looking at my car. My RX7 is very loud being it have no mufflers and no cats, running a header, so people looking is normal, the Honda guys love to rev @ the lights and make noise!

So I am ridding and not going to waste my gas on a civic as he keeps riddin next to me and nailin the throttle.

After about 5 miles of this ****. I got tired of him, so I put into the Jesus gear and start pullin up next to him, we are doing about 45, he goes before I get the front end next to his door. We run up to about 80, he was running out of gear and I was just startin to pull hard. when we shut down. The race was dead even.

This same guy follows me to my house.

I figure he wants to fight or talk, one or the other. He gets out and says WTF have got in there. I told him stock engine, he almost fell down in my driveway.
He told me, I was pullin on him, and would have walked by. he opens the hood and he got a J spec B18 with a T4/T3 hybrid big intercooler. he was running 6 psi with a hondata. He took my number and now we hang out and I now have the RX7 that walks turbo hondas.

Not thats it matters he also had a/c still working on his little 98 civic.

Just saying, it's the same time as a turbo FC.....without the turbo. Forgive me if I think something's fishy.

I'm curious as to the mods that you've done to the car, weight lightening/etc. . Do you have a dyno graph, along with a timesheet from that run? I didn't even think with a perfect RT you could hit 14.2 on a stock port engine.

Unless you were spraying.........

I am a member of the club. He did beat that civic. And yes, he did run 14.2 @ 98 with stock port engine. His car is really quick for a n/a.

My old engine with 198,000 orginal miles with stock port and just intake and exahust and a badly leaking turbo gasket ran 13.8 in the 1/4 mile.

that's it? how much weight did you end up taking out to drop over two seconds from what this thing runs stock? You probably have a cone and a full exhuast too, but still, jeez that must be a lot of weight.

This will probadly make you mad, but that time is on street tires, no traction what so ever for the first to gears.

I assume with a set of slicks. I will easy pick up .5 seconds. I can then add my 75 shot. pick up another.15 seconds. That should get me around a 13.6 or faster. My 60' times are around 2.4 seconds.

Thats assuming the world is perfect that day!

It was very easy. I enjoyed it, I removed everything except the dashboard shell and stock guages.

Kept center console and front 2 seats. Thats all inside besides the battery.

I removed every part that wasn't needed. I even removed the headlight motors, everything you can imagine.

I was also running 14" rim which really makes these no torque having N/As move.

I know they say the RX7s weight 2625lbs, but my title said 2487.

So either way. Its alot of weight. Get the rpms up faster than SP engines and lite flywheeled engines.

I have raped every 6 port SP RX7 I have ever raced.

I'd believe it since your car is that light. Though, it would be funny to see you race an RX-7 that's similarly lightened.

I'm assuming that's not your DD?

Yeah, but having air conditioning, a stereo, and a car that doesn't sound like it's going to burst both your eardrums and it's own engine is much more satisfying than beating a 6 PSI turbo Civic.

daily drivers FTW

OTOH, I bet it has really good mileage...

With times like that, I'd imagine you have a semi-racing clutch of some sort, too... (if not drag tires)

I drive it to work every day. about 40 miles round trip. My Stage 2 Carbon/Kevlar is not any different feeling on the leg. However it does bite harder, but with the lighter weight it just kinda pops up and starts walking sideways in the lane, when you hit it.

Eh, don't rag on him too much about not having any creature comforts, his car is quite fast for what it is. I have a bunch of friends who love driving stripped out cars too. I'm sure he gets decent mileage since his engine's stock and doesn't have much else done to it.

Personally though, I wouldn't be able to drive something like that. I need my radio, a/c and other comforts since I make long trips in my FC. Not have cruise control is a bitch already, my tendons get sore after every long distance drive that I take. I run a sprung 4 puck in my street/track car, it's not soo bad on the street, though i'd rather take the street clutch in my street car.

I know what you guys mean about being empty. I just enjoy the engine and the car. I don't need a radio.

Roen thanks for the comments.

I am thinking of putting the cruise back on and using it to stage my RPMs at the track, so all I gotta do is bang the clutch and drop the brake.

^If I'm not mistaken, the cruise is linked to the clutch safety switch and will only work with the clutch engaged.

You're right thats how they work stock.

You just jumper the clutch switch and rewire the brake switch so, when you push the brake and have the cruise on, it will rev right to where you set it to. IE: 6200 rpm for a launch.

Turn off cruise and it doesn't engage..its very simple..
