my 92 n/a feels so much lighter than my fd. its crazy how you guys say it should weight the same. i think my fd needs to go on a diet now.

 

Depends on what kind of FD you have. If you have a 94 Automatic Touring, they weigh something like 2950lbs. I have a 93 manual base model, which was the lightest FD in America. That weighs ~2780lbs, which is barely more than an n/a MR2.

It could also be because of how the interior feels. MR2s feel smaller because they are rear-mid engined. You have the engine right behind you instead of a nice open hatch area.

 

The MR2 did seem legitimately fast, quick FD too.

Agreed, Just because this is an "Rotary" site doesnt mean we dont give props to a quick car. I just purchased an AW11 and I own an FB, I have to say that MR2's have a bad rap for being "gay" and "chick" cars, but they are absolutely beyond a blast to drive.

Besides, they get good gas mileage and they are reliable, and they arent a Civic or a Camry... Whats not to like??

And it isnt a 2S-GTE, its a 3S-GTE (sorry for being ****), and yes it is one of the greatest Toyota engines EVER made.

 

haha i can't believe i JUST NOW saw this! I am the builder/ tuner of that FD. his turbo literally has nothing for a turbine anymore.. it's pretty sad actually. the motor has a large streetport w/ aspec seals. it was a good budget build, nothing special or spectacular and it's running pretty damn strong considering.

i left him on wastegate (12psi dead on) and tuned him on a pretty chilly night. it did 365rwhp with me shutting down at just over 6k rpms.

now it's been hot as hell lately and it does need to be retuned for this heat. even before the turbo lagged so horribly bad in 3rd/ 4th gear due to being busted as hell even still this thing hauls *** and he has been driving the **** out of it and it's not skipping a beat.

don't worry tony, the new turbo is going to ******* annihilate!

 

aspec makes seals now? Why am I only hearing about this now??

 

honestly this engine is the first i have ever used them in... to me they are dead on with the mazda oem (which i am biased towards). i do not know what materials they're made with or how they will wear on the rotor housing tho. aspec is nice enough to pre-glue them like mazda as well

this may be one of the first few engines with them so far so good!

NOTE: i used OEM springs

My bad Tony i thought you ran a t51r cause after the race i ask Ben and he told me you ran a t51r. I am the owner of the Mr2...and to the guy who says that i am a lier i am not, i was just told that he ran a t51r. Well anyways dam your 7 is fast for running a bad turbo. And are you gonna replace the turbo soon, cant wait to see how the good turbo will run...oh yeah that day i was running pump gas on wastegate spring 14psi. I cant run anything higher than 14psi without 110 or my knock level will be up too high...nice run though let me know when you want to do it again.

Glad to hear that you understand whats being said. Most people on this board would go on the supreme defense if someone said what we did about your OP. Thats a common mentality though, and its sad. In my parents day, it did matter to some extent what you drove. But people gave props where they were due, however they still would "poke fun" at you, but they wouldnt harass you about it like kids do nowadays. And in the end we are ALL car enthusiasts, we all like cars, but our tastes are as diverse as our fingerprints. And most people will not accept that some people like what they cant stand.

Alot of people around here dont like me, and people that are like me usually dont seem to put up with the high school crap that floats around in here.

And most young kids get thier first FB or FC and think its unstoppable. And no offense to you but most of the FD owners I have met personally seem to think that they themselves are God. And that I am just poor, and that must be why I have an FB...

 

Yeah Ker...like I said before...it was a good run I'm gonna get the turbo fixed but just not sure when exactly...you know...got other priorities to take care of first like college ****..hahaha...yeah man you car pulls hard. We'll do it again some other time. Disregard any bad comments that have been made about your car and mine. Some people view things differently...but in the end we all are car freaks!

the rx7 WAS made by God. its in the bible somewhere (i think the bad emissions are what caused the huge flood thingy).
that being said, mr2's can be stupid fast, ive been in my buddies and even with basic mods, it was insane.
