fd vs porsche turbo

as i was merging on the hwy today i saw a new porsche turbo fly by. i speed up quickly and got on his ***. i thought this was gonna be like any other sprts car that i rolled up on and nothing was going to happen. however this guy nailed the gas. i proceeded to do the same. this was at about 65mph. by about 120mph i began to pass him and by about 140 i had over taken him. i slowed down in hope to give it another go from a lower mph but the guy simple drove by and waved. he knew he was slower but it was pretty cool to race an exotic like that. especially since the guy was in his mid 50s i didnt expect it.

my mods are all the boltons running 15 psi on the stock twins and stock motor.

hehe yeah. That old guys is probably young at heart. Reminds me a little bit of that NSX team in Japan, Top End. All those dudes are older than time but are absolutely insane and act much younger than thier age. Could probably still pull 20 year old bitches too...

I raced one of those a couple of years ago. I couldn't gain on him, but he didn't pull on me either. I finally shut down at the end of 4th gear (140 ish). Nice kill.

Wait, are you talking about one of the 911 TT's? I don't think you could run a 911TT down with your mod list, those things pull extremely hard clear up near 200MPH. With a different ECU, intake, and exhaust, there was one showing off a 211MPH run for the gumball one year.

very beleiveable. they are overrated for the price i think. all around very nice cars but straight line is not all they are built for. they would NOT trap more than 120

What? If we are talking about a newer Porsche TT, even the 996 made over 400HP and did sub 4 seconds 0-60. Even driven badly I have seen them doing sub 13 seconds...

EDIT: Here is a spec sheet for the 1996-1998 turbo. The new ones make a lot more power.

http://vista.pca.org/stl/993turbo.htm

0-60mph: 3.7 seconds
0-1/4 mile: 12.1s @ 116 mph
Top Speed: 192 mph
Here is a wikipedia page as well: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porsche_993

i really couldnt tell. i can only tell from the rims but since we were already going 60 plus mph i couldnt figure it out. i would guess the 997 which is the brand spanking new one right? one thing is for sure it was either the brand new model or the 2nd to newest model.

it said turbo on the back.....that was the only writing on the rear end. it was that dark blue color. not sure if that helps

there is no debate here. i beat the car. the guy even had the jump. the only question is wether it was the 2007+ model or the 2003-2006.

997 top speed is 193 mph 480 hp, RR so less drive train loss than FR. Not saying I don't believe, but I wonder if the guy went all out? What does gearing limit FDs to? How much power are you making now? 996 turbo maxes at 193 mph, with 450hp. Good run to hear though, stay safe BTW 997 turbos trap over 120mph if I'm not mistaken?

They are heavy pigs and a disgrace to Porsche as are most of the new cars.

Atleast the turbo's are not built off the crappy 996-997 Carrera motor/transmission and still retain the much older case style as well as transmission.

The new 996-997 Carrera's are easily the worst 911 porsche has ever produced.

boltons pushing 15lbs? wow man thats risky good luck. i have full bolt ons, 99 spec twins and a fuel pump and i dont dare push past 12, you better have a spare engine laying around lol or run your turbos non seq.

I think you mean 924 and they both weight less then 2700lbs and my cars are not stock and are very unique. Also, a 914 is even lighter then my 924 based cars. You can try to bash my car for not being a real "Porsche" and I am fine with that because regardless the 924 based cars are both "fast" and actually alot faster then my 993. Also since I bought all my Porsche's the resale value has gone up or stayed close to even. The 996 based cars have sunk like a rock in comparison each year because they are bad. The funny thing is in 10 years I don't think a base 996 Carrera will be worth as much as my 944 and its all about production numbers. Regardless, I have worked on both extensively and I rather have my 924 VW's

With "full bolts ons", and a decent ecu, you should be able to easily run over 14 psi. You won't need a spare engine either.

I'm sorry, but you are coming across as way to cocky for not knowing if he even got on it, whether it was a manual or automatic, and even what chassis it was. I have driven both and I know people like the 7's, but there are not that many 7's on here that can run a low 12 to high 11 second car down... especially if he got the jump and went WOT like you said. My guess is he got on it pretty good, but that you got on it a lot harder.
