I'm Mike, originally from PR living in MI for the last 7 years. I recently acquired ( September 4, 2020) my childhood dream car a 1993 FD Rx-7. Wanted to introduce myself and say thank you for the valuable information that all of you share on this forum. Look forward to sharing my experience with all of you.
Currently writing my build thread with all details of the car but here is a few to get started. I'm the 4th owner (previous owner had the car for the last 21 years) I was a track car and my intention is to keep it mostly track with a few weekend drives here and there.
Welcome!!! Beautiful FD! What kind of running condition was it in when you brought it home? Do you know any of the car's history?
Thanks man! The car runs and drives just fine, rear end needs work as its pretty clunky but I already have new pillow ***** toe link bushings and bearings coming for that. Has good compression on rear housing and fair compression on front housing.
The previous owner had the vehicle for 21 years and my understanding is that it was a track car only, he used to raced at Watkins Glens. He provided invoices for pretty much everything on the car dating back to 1999. He even provided "polaroid" pictures of when he got the car after it was recovered from theft. I also have in excess of 10 dyno sheets over the years with most recent ones being from 2005 where car put down 429 WHP.
Here is a link of my build thread that covers the full setup on the car as I bought it, it has over 50 pictures of the car. Take a look and let me know what you think! https://www.rx7club.com/build-thread...d-log-1148097/
the car is a beauty. i will assume you were into rotaries when you were i=still in PR then???
what is the scene like down there? i have always wanted to go there and check it out. it's sort of like a Mecca for me - i need to make a pilgrimage. i suppose Australia fits that bill as well for me, but i had knowledge of PR way before i realized how the Aussies got down with rotaries, too.
at any rate, congratulations on getting the car and i look forward to taking a look at your build thread.

Thanks!
Yea, absolutely! I've been around rotaries since I was a little kid. My dad's uncle had a rotary Suzuki Samurai drag jeep (very common swap in PR). My dad was into corvettes at that point, so we went to the main drag strip on the Island almost weekly. It was usually a group of my dad's friends and uncle (a 10 sec FB, a 10 sec 13b Corrolla, 13B Samurai, 13B Starlett and my dads 95 Corvette).
In PR rotaries are so common, particularly in the center of the Island where I'm from that you likely run into one on a daily basis. I definitely consider PR the meca of drag rotary powered vehicles, but I am biased of course. Its always a great battle against the Aussies for sure !
