soon to be joining you... 'new' 94 FD
hello all,
i am a lifelong car nut... you know the kind - we subsribe to autoweek, road & track, motortrend, etc. etc. and a lot of us actually 'save' many of these publications at the dismay of our wives!
i've owned a bunch of BMW's including the 'holy grail' original E30 M3. that car was a lot of fun and the only car that i've ever had actually grow in value when i sold it a few years later.
i've arrived here because of a ride that my brother and i took back in 1994. we had been reading about the RX-7 and following all the magazines raves and reviews... we had to drive one. the salesperson must have trusted us (and sales were slow for the RX-7) as he offered us the car unsupervised! it was a sliver over red example and it absolutely blew us away with it's acceleration and 'on-rail' handling. i took an exit ramp at a million miles an hour it seemed and the thing just stuck like stink.
4 BMW's later, an Audi S4, 2003 SVT Cobra, and a few others and i've now started to look for a super nice FD RX-7. i really am craving a true sports car that is light weight and has good power. i also believe the RX-7 is collectible and will eventually start going north in value.
i'm looking for a super low mileage, stock example - and i think that i've found one. i am a little concerned that because it's barely broken in and has been sitting for so long that i may have to sort out a few things. although i don't plan on driving it much more than 1000 miles per year myself... i'd like to take it to club events, etc. it has been warmed up properly every 3 months for 30+ minutes - does anyone have any advice for me related to this issue?
i look forward to the forum's advice and learning all things rotary!
thank you.
-Greg

Welcome to the club! There's quite a few RX7s here in md. Check out the MD guys thread in the north eastern section, I think it's still the largest thread on the entire forum actually!
There's quite a bit of advice on what to look for in each section. I'm not that up on FD specific issues (I have a 1980 and 88 turbo II) so take a look there first. For the turbo cars I'd look for decent compression, if the motors been rebuilt, any oil burning after it's warmed up. Basically the usual's of any car. You might even luck out and the car will have a good reputation with people in the area. Ask around, I doubt anyone will bite too hard. =D
