Somewhat of a newbie in Michigan

Hey all,

The name is Mori. I am a mechanical [aerodynamics and propulsion] and electrical engineer [EMC] by bachelor degrees, and working on an electrical engineer masters [power electronics] from Kettering University in Michigan. I am a full-time employee and a full-time student otherwise I couldn't afford grad-school paying outright .

I used to work on/drive an RX7 FD back in high school in Florida. It was a friend's track car. I decided last year to pick up an FC S4 for the lower weight, no stupid seat belts, replaceable ball-joints, smaller fuel tank, and some smaller reasoning. Being that I worked at Honda for awhile, I know it's not the best idea to get the later models since they are typically engineered more specific for their application (cheaper, sometimes not the case but a recall is typically done if they improve something drastically).

Anyways, I found an 1988 FC S4 TII Anniversary Ed. in Panama City, Florida. The car had been hit the day before I called the guy by a drunk shooter girl at a bar. He had to replace the driver's door and mirror, but aside that it was in great shape. Had some engine flooding/start-up issues but I'm sure you all know that it's pretty normal. By the time I got to Florida and to make the 8 hour drive from my hometown to Panama City, the car had just semi-finished it's repair job at a body shop. I took a look at it and test-drove it. Amazing thing, so I bought it and had to leave it at the shop as it wasn't entirely done. Two weeks later I got a dispatcher to pick it up and drive up up here for around 700 USD.

The driver was extremely inflexible considering he got here earlier than we agreed upon and since I was out-of-town until that night at 18:00, I had to get the thing shipped to my roommates work-site. I got home, to his office, and we got it fired up easily. On the way, I needed gas so we stopped to get some (knew it would happen), and the car wouldn't start. We spent about 1.25 hours in a gas station trying to get it to run properly. Fun stuff. I got it home and in the garage. I drove it maybe 10 times between then and now.

I noticed half way through it's first real winter that the transmission wouldn't go in reverse... yeah. I started to get the tranny out and noticed that the top two bolts were COMPLETELY rounded. Great, so I had the engine out for awhile and decided to clean up the injectors and some other things. I found a new tranny in Ohio that hadn't been in an RX7 in... 14 years and had some rust, but it worked for 250 USD. I started a blog page for updates and pictures to save time:

I have been being a creeper on this forum since October but for some reason never joined up. Just really busy with work, classes, and the car, I guess.

Just FYI, t3hgone is my gamer-tag since high school so I pretty much use it for everything. . Anyways, thanks for reading!
