Sandracer from Maine
My brother in law has been racing RX-7's 1st gen for 20+ years in circle track. When I got tired of breaking parts on the piston engined cars i was sand drag racing, he talked me into trying out a rotary. I ended up spending close to 3 years rounding up parts to create my current toy. Engine is a 12A out of an 83 RX-7, Racing beat intake with a 650cfm Holley, dual MSD ignitions, 100+ HP NOS system, Racing Beat aluminum flywheel..... and a Micro-belmont 4 tower billet aluminum sno-mo clutch drive. The 135" chrome-moly car weighs in at 638# race ready and runs 4.70's on a 300' track at 72 mph. and yes it is a blast to drive. I have the "idle set at 3800 rpm's and the clutch engages at 4200 rpm's. It turns up to about 8400 rpm's with about .5 second and stays there for the full pass. Been running the current motor for 6 years now and other than occasional carb or ignition bugs, it is easy to run.
If anyone is interested I have a peripheral port set-up with intake and 52mm Webber down-drafts that I am going to be unloading. It's all in parts at this point but some rare parts.
