RX7Club.com Founder, back from the dead!

How do you know if you're a RX7Club original? If you remember BOOSTD 7!

It's been forever since I've been around, after creating and growing the site with the help of some other dedicated and talented people, it's felt like being estranged from your child this time I've been gone. For over a decade I put everything I had mentally, physically, financially into this website. I lived and breathed rotary, created RX Tuner magazine and lost a lot of money in the process, but had an incredible time doing so.

I've really missed being a part of all this. There was a long period of life where ALL my friends and acquaintances were people I met through rx7club, now it's a memory. But I do still have some good friends from it all, people I know would be there for me if needed.

So why am I back? Well, timeframe isn't certain due to circumstances beyond my control, but I think inside of 6 months I'm going to get to finally realize my dream build. Back in RX Tuner magazine days, and even before, I had a nasty habit of getting screwed over by builders. Honestly getting bent over so many times was a big factor is my leave of absence, it just left to much of a bad taste in my mouth. This time around, things are going to be different, I'm only going to work with the best to create my vision.

And oh do I have a vision! The build that's in my mind will be like nothing seen before, literally Detroit Autorama/Ridler Award level of customizations. I'll be working with 3D Modelers to render the bodywork ideas I have, and then create them from scratch with 5-axis machines and 3D printing. Everything tip to tail will be custom and new, keep the FD cues but modernize it all. Interior, I'll give Gordon Monson nightmares thinking he needs to rip his out and start over. Chassis work I have ideas, going to start with a fresh acid dipped shell and seam weld it all, maybe 3/4 chassis with inboard front suspension. Power is probably my big current unknown, and I'll be depending on the people I work with to help with the decision - but either 4-rotor NA or 3-rotor turbo.

There will be a lot of decisions along the way, and I plan on chronicling every step here. I'll depend on all of you as well to make smart decisions. And I plan on dumping the appropriate amounts of $$$ into it so that things move along quickly.

Some of you probably heard, and remembered me, when my wife tragically passed away almost a year and a half ago. For the entire 10 years we were married she'd hear me occasionally talk about my 3rd Gen, and how I wish I could do something with it. But I never made it a point, because our life was happy, and I didn't want to bring anything negative into our lives. So I tried as best I could to put it out of our minds. It was about 2 months before she died that she, out of the blue, brought it up in conversation how she wanted us to try and get it back together. She knew what it meant to me, knew how I'd suffered the time and time again of being taken advantage of. She was an amazing woman and was willing to sacrifice things she wanted like vacations or improvements to the house so that I could have my dream. Like many things in life, it was strange, the timing of it. And this build will be dedicated to her. Her looking down probably won't give a **** about the car, but she'll enjoy seeing me having fun! To my friend here, sorry for just disappearing the way I did. But I'm looking forward to getting back in the swing, and catching up on how our lives have evolved. Cheers to all!

Ryan Scott

Best wishes with your new project, I wholeheartedly look forward to you making in a reality and not ending up in a competition with Rob Dahm for who can tease the most updates and show no progress!

Lol, I'll have to find a new way to have a MythBusters episode made about me.

Rob's build, aesthetically at least, will look mundane compared to what I have planned. His mechanicals are pretty nifty though. Making it happen quick just takes cash, no mysteries.

Wow, this is going to be some project! Looking forward to watching the journey unfold. Sounds like you'll be giving Monsterbox and Rob Dahm a run for their money.

Sorry for the loss of your wife. Hopefully you can find some solace in this project and the 7club community!

Thanks for creating this forum back in the day. It's been a real treat for the rest of us to enjoy and contribute to!

Yep, it was purple AF! I would love to see that pic if you ever find it.

And your memory is obviously WAY better than mine. I can't remember what I had for breakfast.

Forgot to mention, another part of my plan, something I've been contemplating for a loooong time. I owe my parents everything, they're incredible people. And they often tell stories of how they fell in love while Dad was stationed in Germany, and them blasting around in their MGA Twin-Cam. So, my plan is to build a Renesis powered MGA for them with greatly modernized suspension/brakes, and give it to them as a gift. The nice thing about that gift is eventually it'll be given back to me

applaud what your doing.. had a similar story where i picked up my second cym with the intention of turning it over to my late father... he has always admired the first cym and on a whim picked a 2nd one up (earliest build cym on record) and drove it cross country.. he helped me pull the motor after purchase in favor of a 20b.. little did he know that he was helping me build his future car.. unfortunately he passed.. never got to finish and she sat for a long time.... i just couldnt muster the will to complete her... years passed and had to sell in order to finance divorce lawyers in order to keep my kids.. one of the bigger regrets of my life as she meant a great deal to me... depression certainly has a way of clouding your judgement.. good luck with your build and you will be surprised how a hunk of machinery can transform it into something else much greater than what is in front of you..

We talk ourselves out of spending money on cars, other "more important things", and "it's just a car". But at certain moments in life, things like cars can turn into life-long memories that bind people. My wife and I fell in love driving a '90 Vert, and for a long time we toyed with selling it, but now that she's gong I can't bring myself to.

I'm hoping I can create something fun and unique with the rotary MGA, and in the process give my parents a whole new batch of good memories.

Ryan, you were never forgotten brother. I think we all understand that life gets in the way of a lot of things and again, HUGE condolences for the loss of your wife.. We're here to support you in this build and you know that whatever the community can provide to see it finished, we will provide. This is, has been and always will be the strongest rotary community out there and we welcome you back with open arms.

Its funny (but not so much) to hear you say you've lost a lot of money over the years on your 7's. I remember that used to be a staple around here that we would pass to new members. "hope you have a thick wallet", lol. I don't see guys talking about moths in the wallet much anymore due to these cars. Its good to hear someone bring that back up because it is so true! Welcome back Ryan and we will look forward to pics of the build!

Welcome back. Entered as a car noob in 2003. Been through 10 Rx-7s since, no longer have an FD or FC since 2015. Now I own a 05 Rx-8 and Cx-7 Turbo AWD. I am a certified Master Technician and I currently teach Automotive at UTI college and I rave everyday about how awesome the Rotary is. Had to reinvent myself last two years learning how to teach and finally got married, so now I am finally getting back to finding a new chassis for my FD motor in my garage. I've come a long ways, and I wouldn't be here without you creating this forum which put me on this path. Hope that helps you out some, and your build sounds awesome. Can't wait to see it. And again, welcome back.
