Rx-7 With a bad start.
Rx-7 With a bad start.
Hey, i'm Zach and i suppose I'll tell my story.
In october i got my rx-7. A beautiful red and black 1984 GSL-SE with a fuel injected 13-b engine, and a strong will to be driven.
(I traded my 1998 dodge neon sohc for it, which i paid $400 for. What a steal, right?)
So i got it home, drove it for a week, and then it rained... This is where my painful story begins. I didnt have the money for new tires, so i was driving the bald ones that came on the car. i dropped to second to pull a sharp corner going home on a rainy night, and the car spun around, drove through a ditch, and then through a fence. Aside from my pride, I was unharmed, and for the most part, so was the car. it came out with scratches, and a dent in the passenger rear quarter panel, no big deal. From there, things started going downhill. It drove like nothing happened for another week, and then it started acting funny. It would cut out and die for no reason. Instantly, like i turned the key, it would die. It would fire right back up no problem, and i would get to where i needed to go, but over the next few days it got progressively worse until one day i was driving home, and three blocks from my house, it cut out and died, and would not start back up. So, i pushed it back to my house, and there it has sat ever since. Every once in a while I will go out and toss a battery in it and fire it up, and up until two days ago, it would just turn over. maybe fire and run for a few seconds, but not normally. Two days ago, after letting it sit for about a month and a half, i tossed a battery in it and tried to start it. I started it, it ran for a few seconds and then died. I pulled the spark plug wires off, turned it over a few times, and put them back on. It fired up without hesitation, and ran for twenty minutes, and then died. I fired it right back up, and it ran for another ten, before i turned it off, and went back in my house happy. Yesterday I felt ballsy and drove it around the block. I got about four blocks away, and turned around, to see that my light cover had fallen off and flown down the road, so i turned off the car and ran to get it. The car started right back up and i drove it home. As soon as i got it parked where i wanted it, it died and would not start again. It was taunting me!
Anyway, the point of this very long-winded story, is I'm trying to see if anyone has any suggestions on how to fix this, or possibly what it is. I've replaced all the plugs and wires, checked my fuel pump and filter, and all of my vacuum lines, and everything seems to be in order. I haven't looked at the injection system yet, I'm not quite that daring unless I know that's what it is. Please respond with questions or comments.
Thank you very much!
