Rotar Virgin excited to awaken a beast 1984 Rx7 GSL-SE
Greetings everyone!
My name is Chris and I am going to be wrenching on a very special car in the near future...My stepdad's 1984 Rx7. I look forward to getting lots of great advice from the experts on your forum and enjoying what I am sure will be a superfun car.
I have never been for a ride in any rotary powered machine and look foward to getting this one on the road. The car is sitting in my Dad's driveway where it has been for over 10yrs now. It is not running, although I have tried (not very hard mind you) to start it, it turns over and was running when parked... My dad purchased the car to autocross race it and never had the time or energy to devote to it. The turbo is a monster and has a bit of lag that is apparently not good for autocross racing either.
He tells me the car is 'special' and was dyno'd at over 300hp back in the day - it has lots of life left in it with under 62K on the odometer...Corky Bell did the turbo, there is custom exhaust and some crazy fuel pump issue that pops the fuel line off when you back out of her quickly - the current set up involves a mechanical fuel pressure regulator of some kind working off the manifold...I have notes on the car and will post in the technical section moving forward.
The previous owner purchased the car new and only put 5000 miles on it after having it souped up (at 56000 miles). He was street racing in Houston TX one summer night with the windows rolled down...the rear end got light and he spun the car all the way down the ship channel bridge. Scared the **** out of him and dad bought the car the next day. I plan on adding a few stains of my own to the driver's seat in the future
Cheers,
Chris
