Rebirth of 85 GSL-SE
In 1982 when my girlfriend graduated from college, her father gave her a new RX-7 for a graduation present. We got married a year later and started having kids, needless to say after our second son we outgrew that great little car. We had a lot of great times in that ride.
About 5 years ago she saw a 85 GSL-SE for sale on the side of the road near our house. We had been talking about getting her a 1st generation 7 and were kinda looking at some. Well without me seeing the car she brought it!
We got to drive it for a little over a year before the engine gave up the ghost. Little to no compression on both set of seals. I took the engine out and clean up and painted the engine bay. A good friend of my, who owns a repair shop said he would install a rebuilt motor for us. That was 2 ½ years ago.
One our kids had a car problem a couple of weeks ago and had to put his car in the shop for a couple of days and of course the wife gave up her car to him so he could get to work. A big pain in the *** for us. As we were eating dinner during this time she said how much she missed not having the Mazda around. I could see in her eyes that she really missed HER car.
She is a great mother and wife. To bad her husband is a forgetful SOB. I haven’t though about that car in a year. Well I’m finally getting off my butt. I had a long talk with my friend and told him that we Got to get this car running! So now the engine is being installed. I am to get it back next week .Since she doesn’t know about the work being done I have decided to pimp her ride. As soon as I get the car, it is going to the body shop for a new smokegrey paintjob. After the paint she is going to get a new interior (is red going to black).
My goal is to have it ready on Feb. 14, her birthday! I also need to thank GSL- addict and CJF for helping me getting this thing underway. This site is full of great people and full of info on these cars. Without this place this project would be a total nightmare.
I will be posting pictures of the progress.

That's an awesome story, she will be very glad when she get's sees it in February. It's very thoughtful of you to do that for your wife, and on a side note, that's amazing she's into Rx7's. Good luck with the car.
