TX Possible New RX7 Owner

Hey my name is Joseph, 19 and I'm from TX. Always been into cars but in terms of rotaries I always just looked at the FC and FD but never anything older. A while back my friend knew someone who was getting rid of first gen RX-7 for $500 but it had a lot of problems and had sat for 5 or so years. Originally my other friend wanted to buy it to fix it up, but when I was making a delivery (at the time we all worked at Domino's) I saw this gem and surprisingly the owner was willing to get rid of it! I instantly fell in love with it and I'm actually leaning towards purchasing it for myself.

I actually was trying to help my friend find a project car but after seeing this RX7 I soon fell in love with it. Here's some background info on the car: apparently the car was running fine but one day the car would not start so the previous owner parked it for about a year (according to him). It is an original motor with around 90k miles. He said it has spark but thinks its a problem with the fuel delivery. The fuel pump has also been changed (once again this is just going by what he said). Interior is what you would expect for a car its age (unsure of exact year, forgot to ask him), tires and rims are new, and from what I can tell the under body is rust-free. He was looking for $800 and would throw in an extra motor, a engine stand with a rotary engine mount, short throw shifter, some brake rotors and misc. parts. Does this sound fair? Is there anything else I should look for before closing the deal?

This is the information I have gathered from the previous owner: was running fine but one day after coming home it wouldn't start. He said it has spark and has replaced the fuel pump. Since then its been sitting about a year. Along with a spare engine and some misc parts he said he'd sell the whole thing for $800. Does this sound like a OK deal?

Tried to post this but hopefully third times the charm! I saw this 81 rx-7 and instantly fell in love with it. Was originally trying to find a project car for my friend and after he mentioned a rotary I asked a customer on a delivery (at the time we both worked at dominos) if the car was for sale. As luck would have it he was moving and needed to get rid of the car! After about a month of trying to justify another car, and pouring over all the first-gen threads on the forum I dropped down $800 and haven't looked back since. Previous owner was even nice enough to throw in some extra parts including a spare engine and stand

Not a big fan of the maroon interior but you can't beat the price for the straight body, Panasports and a spare engine. Some guys have all the luck.

Thanks for taking the time to register and welcome aboard to RX-7 Club! The more 1stgen folk who join, the better I always say, gotta a couple of the beasts myself.

Ended up buying this 81 GS but the day I bought it I couldn't get it started and had to have it towed to my house. By the afternoon I had drained the old fuel out by disconnecting the inlet to the carb and once she had some fresh gas she started right up! After a short test drive I quickly realized the brakes were shot and she made a terrible squealing noise above 4k RPM or so.

So far I've replaced the spark plugs, belts, and the oil and earlier this week I took off the front wheels to inspect the brakes. Needless to say it was not just going to be a afternoon job after seeing the damage so I just put the wheels back on and backed her back up into the car port. Will probably be replacing all the parts on the front brakes but I'm thinking about getting new calipers and brake lines. After that I just need to replace the combination switch (it broke the day I bought it >_<) and if I can find the time replace all the suspension bushings. So many parts and so much to fix but so little time
