Hey all, My name is carlos and im 22 yrs old in the military stationed in san Antonio texas. I do not own a rx7 but I am very interested in them and I might have the opportunity to purchase one nearby if things work right and I believe that I can work with it. I grew up in NYC so I never needed a car but this wont be my first car. I currently own a 2013 Hyundai Veloster turbo. I plan on getting rid of this and getting something older with a better aftermarket community I guess? I am a noob when it comes to rx7 and its why I joined I started reading threads but hoping someone here can put me in the right direction. Ive always liked the rx7 but never had the ***** to go for one and I might have a shot here. Found someone selling a 95 rx7 and it actually doesn't have a lot of mods and still on original engine and tranny and the twins. Any advice or direction will be helpful and I am going to post everything that this person said in his post about the car and hoping I can get some amazing advice. this will have to be reliable for maybe a week till I get a beater to use as a daily just need to sell my car after it gets the new clutch here is the information about it.

From 1995-2003 this car was actually used by Mazda as a test vehicle for recall purposes. I have all original documentation and records from the dealership and original owner. I have a video of the car starting and idling and will provide more pics and info if desired. Thanks for checking my ad.

Hey man, I love my second gen. RX7s are great. I will tell you though that you should expect working on the RX7 a lot more than the veloster. The good news? Once you learn the basics for the intake system and electronics, it's a piece of cake. The rotary engine has a LOT less moving parts than the piston engine. About 5 internal moving parts. Pretty awesome stuff.

Hi Carlos I did a quick search for you. You will want to carefully read a buyers guide. According to the buyers guide I found the 3rd Gen takes more kindly to modifications than the 2nd Gen and has more potential horsepower. Be sure to check and double check that the VIN is not salvaged. I have heard of a case where someone bought a FD in California under a "Clean" title then found out it was salvaged in Minnesota. Anyway, be sure not to rush things and don't be afraid to turn around and go home if it doesn't meet your expectations. I would advise not to purchase any car past sundown based on my own experiences. Godspeed Sir.

I didn't want to troll or whatever but since no one has posted I will give my two cents. Generally the Rx7 FD sells for around $10k-$30k. I rarely see them for $10k. Never put at v8 in it even if you get it Bar'ed. It takes the value down significantly. Some guy is trying to get rid of his v8 Rx7 FD for 8k. Most people sell the rolling chassis for around $7k-$8k.
It appears your compression is low. If you already bought it, plan on an engine rebuild because it appears you are 2.0 kgf under spec (Kilograms per Foot I would guess). A rotary engine rebuild isn't the most enjoyable thing in the world but it will teach you a thing or two about mechanical knowledge and patience. Or just get a new engine off of ebay or something. Try to give the engine to someone who knows how to rebuild to recycle it. But whatever you do don't install a V8 because like I said, it decreases the value significantly.
I just passed California smog test with a FC. If I can do it you sure as heck can. Be patient and ambitious. By the time the car runs great you will hate working on it but it will prevent you from selling it for a while. You also won't be afraid of working on the car. I am not selling my FC that's for dang sure and I usually can't hold on to a car for more than two years without getting bored.

I would strongly suggest keeping your running car. I had a Toyota Celica GT 1990 that I traded for this RX7. I had just got the Celica fully running and passed smog after around two years of the car sitting and then once again I had no legal car when I got the RX7. My friends hated it because the RX7 sometimes would die and I couldn't figure out how to bumpstart a rotary. Now that my RX7 passed California emissions test I honestly have no desire at all to sell the car even if I want a 240z Pre-Smog more. I will literally have to own a Salvage title RX7 forever and I have actually become quite comfortable knowing that. I have realized getting a car legit and turning around and selling it is just a waste of my money and time. I will save all the money before I own another car even if the prices are very affordable at the moment. That Veloster turbo is probably going to treat you very well as a daily driver. A RX7 is a great daily driver for anyone who enjoys working on their own extremely high maintenance car. Always keep a daily driver even if it is the ugliest most pathetic car you could think about. I would have rather had a Geo Metro for the time I waited to get this car working. Riding buses sucks.
