Possible Buyer

Recently I became aware of a 1985 Rx7. It does not run, needs a ton of body and interior work but I want to buy it from its current owner. The owner has no clue what she wants for it and i have no clue how much it is worth. Any idea? All original, White, red interior. Original wheels. Complete junker but with a good amount of love it could run in a few years. If anyone would have an idea id love to send this woman an offer.

I would guesstimate $500 - $1,000 if the body is rotted out and a total junker.

There would have been different models of RX7 back in 1985 .. S, GS, GSL, GSL-SE.

The GSL-SE has the larger 13B 6-port fuel injected engine, unique 14" wheels, and an LSD. It's one of the more desirable models if everything is original.

Do you have a picture of the car to share?

Also as a subtle reminder: Please do not post "How much is this worth??" OR "Should I buy this Car??" in the INTRO or TECH Section!!!

Based on the wheels .. it's definitely not a GSL-SE.

The front license plate indicates that the vehicle was last registered in Washington. If the underside isn't totally rusted out .. then the car might be worth salvaging (given enough time, love, and money). If the underside is totally rotted out .. then this might be a good parts car for when you do find a 1st gen RX7 that is worth restoring.

Keep in mind that it is getting difficult to find parts for a 37 year old car .. and shipping parts to Alaska may be expensive.

Welcome to the forum!! I second inspecting the car for major rust. Wheel wells, rear control arm mounts, rocker panels, etc. If its void of major rust and you can get it cheap, it would be a great car to restore. As mentioned above, some parts are no longer available new from Mazda and others are just difficult to find. Otherwise it would be a straightforward restoration and you would learn a lot and have a blast in doing so.
