Nostalgic San Diego
It all started when I was younger and would see the old RX-4 and FB's & Dime's with carbed Rotaries. i'd be like man those cars are loud. My Dad,Uncle & their buddies would race their Porsches and Bimmers against these old Rotaries. I liked the Toyotas alot too. The Nissan Fairladys were always popular as were the Dimes. The Rotary powered cars were real quick and would walk all over alot of other cars. They'd spit fire and pop as they left the line in a fury. The freeway races were insane too. I remember this one Fb that would downshift and spit a huge flame out the back and then dissapear.
I originally wanted an E30 M3, but those were like a milion bucks to me back then. The 510's were another favorite too. I liked the boxy look alot. I got alittle older and decided I wnated to be an engineer. i started to realize that even though the boxy look was cool, it really wasn't functional.
I ended up picking up an AE86 Corolla when I was 11 or 12. i saved my allownace and bought it for like $600 or $700. I learned how to work on cars and drive them with that car. I learned suspension upgrades engine swaps, & tranny swaps on that car.
i eventually picked up a book around the same time. It was called, RX-7 The new mazda rotary and sports cars. Something like that. it was by Mr.Yamaguchi. I really got into the book, but FC's were still too exspensive. I got really deep into the nostalgic Japanese car scene.
To make a super long story short, I ended going to some insanely rich guys house a while back to check out a Ford Taurus SHO. The guy showed us around and in his double decker garage parked at the top was a brownish colored series 4. it was a base model as i could tell from reding my book. It had the 4 lug and basic wheels. It ran fine. He'd had it in the upper loft with a Camaro for awhile. He'd start it regularly and kept it up. I asked him how much he wanted to sell it for. He said $300. I had a pretty cool car at the time but I really wanted that FC. The only reason I didn't pick it up was that I wouldv'e had to have sold my current car and for the fact that I still didn't trust a Rotary powered car as a daily driver. A bit of time passed and i ended up helping a newbie on one of the corolla forums work on his project corolla. He'd mentioned that he liked FC's and I was like cool. i tried to sway him away from a Rotary. He eventually told me it was a car he'd recently considered as a dream car. me understanding the importance of owning a dream car lept at the chance to tell him of the rich guy and the base model RX-7.
I made some calls and ended up with a few leads but no finds. i'd forgotten where the guy lived. I ended up telling the newbie about a friend of mine who happened to be what I'd call an FC guru. I knew he always had a few extra FC's around& if he didn't he knew where some could be had. Well they can always be had but the newbie was a bit of a Senior El Cheapo, so he wasn't looking to spend much. They talked and the newbie ended up purchasing a series 4 vert off my friend for $1000. I ended up getting bit by the Rotary bug and here I am!!!!!!
